I Just Wanna Be Average/ Broken English “I’m Articulate”

These two readings have to be my favorite because they relate so much to what I’ve been through with society and education. Mike Rose tells a great deal of how his community was not the best but was motivated to get far. How he  wanted  to be average but was far from it. He talks so much about all the teachers that even thou had their flaws were there to make a foot print in his education.  When he talks about his teacher that had a great impact on his life and how without them they would just be another part of statics.

In the video by Jamila Lyiscott, I kept yelling at the screen like I was there– “YOU GO GIRL!”. “Do not judge a person for speaking a different way from you” was my favorite quote by her, one of many. What really  really grabbed my attention was when she said “Broken English due to stolen history”, immigrant made generations are taken by history we don’t know about.  I live by these words because everyday we don’t our history but doors open everyday to learn and grow.

Unit 2 Project discussion and Brainstorming– COMMENTS PLZ.

Where to start huh? 2020 has been a nonstop rollercoaster. If it is not one thing, it is another.  After brainstorming, I could have a whole mouth full to every little bit of our current events. The one that interests me is what is going on with social distance learning. I am a mother of a 9 year old in the 4th grade fully remote, a 2 year old who is going through a growing  phase during a pandemic, and myself deciding that returning to college full time remotely during these time was ideal. I am seeing the pros and many cons of blended learning. And the emotional toll not only myself but my children, their teachers, their peers, and my professors. I just received an email from  the DOE and DOH on new cases that show the school down for two weeks. I want to write about the advantages and disadvantages of social distance/ remote learning on the community, on education, and mental health. Maybe interview some parents, teachers, and some children and see what they think. I seen video podcast from teachers on the issue. Some teachers plan out refusing to leave and some teachers that are mentally not handling it well (we have to stay together, be kind). I  lost a family member to covid-19 and knew people that got sick. some that lost their jobs and some that don’t know what to do.

What is your own “Good Trouble”?

I have to say that I was truly moved by Congressman Lewis , A pioneer for all things righteous for human life. When there is wrong in our society, as decent human beings we it is our duty to stand up to injustice and do something about it . In a nonviolent way to make a difference in a world that we live in, that is our right. Listening to his speech at City College and his last testament,  he entrusted our generation to help continue what many before us lay their lives on the line for, to demolish injustices to humans. One of think– blacks and white. It is so much more than that. I am honored to be a generation that can help lead this moment. How many times have I heard “Go back where you came from?” “do not speak Spanish, we live in America!” or the best “are you from Mexico?” because there is only one Spanish country out there.  Could I lose a marble? Yell and act crazy? Yes, that’s just my animal instinct to protect my culture but being born on the same day as the great Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday would not be the in his philosophy and discipline of nonviolence vision. Yet I choose to educate those who know no better. Those that  see only the cover of each individual but we all bleed the same color. My own good trouble to stand up tall and step up. Spread love to those that may need it more than me. I am Latina we love everything.
