Traditions

When we hear the word “Traditions” we automatically think about something (an act) that is transmitted from generation to generation. Walt Disney World use the word “Traditions” for one of the most important hiring process meeting. Traditions happens in Disney University and from there we went on a tour to Magic Kingdom and its backstage. Traditions is one of the best memories, it is when our mind (as new Cast Members) starts to open and start discovering how, who, and what makes Walt Disney World so magical.
When we get to tradition we get to meet more employees including CP and ICP. Right after introducing ourselves we proceeded to watch video and presentation from Disney Leaders. One of the most important video and information I retrieved from Traditions was how Walt Disney worked so hard to pursue his dream. Walt says “I just want everybody to be happy” and this is what Disney tries to do.
Through Tradition we also learned to understand how important coworkers are. According to Walt, “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it tastes people to make the dream a reality” this video I watch it in Traditions and right after we spoke the values of it. For Walt Disney World the employees means a lot, without them (us), we can not create happiness. But of course there the company also wants to make sure every employee is is performing happily. One of the benefits we get as being a Cast Member is unlimited free entrees for us, amazing discount in almost all the store, restaurant, resorts, and cruises within the company. Also the company has contrast with certain companies so we get discount in those places. For example, Skechers, Cici’s Pizza and a lot more locations.
Reading the article “Create Company Loyalty with New-Hire practice” by Tasha Freidlein, she mentions in other words how important can be the hiring process for a new hired. She says how they try to make the hiring process interesting and educative. Comparing this article with Traditions, Traditions is very educative and exciting. We had a gift on top of the table and we were not allowed to open it until any given direction. At the end of Traditions we heard somebody nocking the door, when we opened the door, it was Mickey “Our Boss” as we call it. He came with another gift box. Later on we were allowed to open the box on front of us, it was our new and first Ears. Then they open the box Mickey brought and it was our official name tag and ID card. Tradition was not just a meeting but a magical day for all of us, the new Cast Members.
HVS Hotel Management is very similar to Disney in the way they drive their business. In the hiring process at HVS Hotel, they new hire are taken in a tour through the rooms to see how they are and so they are aware of what is in it. Comparing the article to Traditions, after a while watching videos of the company’s rules, passion, and mission. We took a tour to Magic Kingdom and its Back Stage. Beside some inner information that we are restricted to say from Back Stage. I have to say that I learned a lot, for example: some of the operation we have learned is about where all the characters are, who and how they are schedule so there is not repeated character together nor even near by each other.
One of the most important things I learned at Traditions was the Four Keys. The Four Keys was introduced to us that day and is the most important information that we can learn from Tradition to implement it in any roll and location. The Four keys stands for Safety, Curtesy, Show, and Efficiency. What these all means is, safety begins with me, keep a safety environment for everyone, always smile and be friendly, always be ready to perform accordingly and work with integrity. With these Four Key you can succeed working for Walt Disney World and you will also keep the magic happening.

To conclude, Tradition and the article HVS Hotel Management are very similar. Tradition is very interesting and exciting similarly to the article where HVS Hotel Management keeps their hiring process fun and interesting. As I read in the article it is part of the hiring process to introduce the old employee by telling their stories on how they started (position, location) and where they are now. In traditions and even every where we go as part of the hiring and training process, every employee introduce themselves saying how they have been growing within the company. I personally think it is very efficient because it shows us that they have been in our shoes, showing that if we want we can grow as well, it is not imposable. As Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can live it”.

  1. I really enjoy reading your paper. One of the best moments at traditions was when we were able to go to the backstage of Magic Kingdom. It was such a magical moment. I love hearing the stories of how cast member started working for the company and how most of them always had a dream to work for Disney. I hope one day I can tell other CP how I started working for the company. I believe one of the best things about working for Disney is not only the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people from all around the world but also be able to be part of dreams of a thousand guests.

  2. Connecting new member of the company with the long standing members helps build a sense of community quickly and is done so well by Disney.
