Hi, my name is Adaliat, but I like to go by Adel. I’ve been studying at City Tech for two years. This summer, I tried my hand at sewing. I’m drawn to Art Nouveau because of its connection with nature. One of my favorite pieces is the Art Deco “Ladies Panther” by Frederick Little Packer (1886–1956).

    • Morgan Jeong

Nice to meet you Adel! I also appreciate Art Nouveau for it’s connection with nature, and I love the nostalgic and classic feel it can give to your design.

  2. Heni

Hello, my name is Heni Abid. I am a 23-year-old Communication Design student originally from Tunisia, North Africa. I have a strong interest in packaging and product design and am eager to explore the world behind these creative fields. In addition to my studies, I work as a videographer, photographer, and graphic designer, freelancing through my own media agency.

In my spare time, I enjoy listening to all genres of music and am especially drawn to action-themed series and films. I’m excited to meet you all in class and look forward to learning together.

    • Ten

Nice to meet you Heni, I also share an interest in package design, one day I want to learn video editing and photography but I never really had the equipment or experience to really delve into it. I also love action movies, especially Marvel.

      • Heni

It is pleasure to meet you too Ten! It is nice that we share the same interest, and I would be happy to teach you the basics of the editing in Premiere pro.

    • Nathaly

Hi Heni! It’s so amazing how much you’ve achieved at this stage in your life, you seem like a very motivated person to grow your creativity and learn various forms of media. I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with next!

      • Heni

I truly appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support!

    • Malachi

Nice to meet you, Heni. I also like to listen to all genres of music especially when I am working on projects. I also love to watch action films of any kind.

  3. Nathaly

Hi! My name is Nathaly (she/her), I currently have no specific academic interest besides learning a little of everything in my field. I never really chose my major, I knew I wanted to do something in the creative field, and communications design was what city tech had to offer so that’s how I got here! I enjoy the little things in life, like sleeping…I also like watching comedies, horror, action, and fantasy movies/shows. In my spare time I like to catch up on shows or rewatch the same ones for the 10th time.

Regarding influence, I take inspiration from everyone I meet. I think everyone has a specific quirk in their work that sets them apart and I enjoy learning their technique, why they chose something, how they present, and what their final outcome is. I also take inspo from various artists and other student designers who are active on social media. https://www.instagram.com/nathaly.design/

Hi,your work is super vibrant and fun! Each piece has its own unique vibe, yet they all connect so well together. I really admire how you mix different styles and bring your own creativity into everything you do. It’s clear you take inspiration from so many places, and it really shows in your designs.

    • Luis Jimenez

Hey Nathaly I’ve seen your work before in another class and I definitely have got to say you are talented with your designs. You have the right idea but also you know how to execute that idea. However I also agree with you saying how you can take inspiration from other designers as well, it’s for sure a pleasure to get to work with others or just study their work.

    • Luis

Hey Nathaly, I’ve seen your work before in another class and I definitely have got to say you are talented in your work, I agree with the part of you talking about how being with other designers can inspire you. Just listening or studying their work can help when you feel burnout.

    • Heni

Hey Nathaly! Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. It sounds like you’re open to learning and exploring creatively, which is such a great mindset to have in this field. Looking forward to seeing where your journey takes you!

    • Patty G

I always love seeing your design work! looking forward to seeing what you create this semester!

  4. Morgan Jeong

    Hi everyone,

I’m Morgan. As a kid, I’ve always been drawn to activities that explored my creativity like drawing, crafting, and playing instruments. I chose COMD as my major because I wanted to channel my creativity and my problem-solving skills to help find creative solutions to real life problems. And make a living doing so. I don’t get to have a lot of free time between working and freelancing but when I do— I love to go for picnics, enjoy a workout class, or play tennis. I feel a strong connection to the discourse and exploration of the human experience and storytelling, and I often draw inspiration from there.

Looking forward to a great semester and to meet everyone.

    • Marcia

Hello Morgan, I loved your video. Your ‘kid’ self-throwing up the peace sign is a wonderful frame to start. We are similar in that we both played instruments when we were younger and love storytelling. I clearly see your use of storytelling in your presentation.

  5. Marcia

Hello everyone. It was good to see you all in class today. My name is Marcia. My academic interest is history. It helps me to understand my heritages, and the heritages of others. I choose to study Communication Design because it involves media. Media is far reaching, and can captivate audiences from everywhere, all at once. I enjoy reading, walking, and creating under stress. I also enjoy creating when I am not under stress. The music I enjoy most have songs that have a real nice story to it. I am partial to the electric guitar and djembe drums. I don’t do video gaming. The way I see it, I am an avatar already, and everywhere I go, is the game. At least that is how I often feel. In my spare time I like to relax. My deepest emotions influence my creative work. So too the deepest emotions of others. Most of the time I sign my work Mar Ku. I think I will add Jackson, for now on. My pronouns are She/Her.

  6. Ten

Hello, my name’s Tennille (she/her). I spend most of my free time playing video games like Pokémon and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or watching One Piece on Cruchyroll, I’m almost done watching the Water 7 arc. I also spend a lot of time listening to music, I listen to any song that I find catchy but mostly listen to a lot of of TXT, The Neighborhood and Chase Atlantic. I chose Communication Design ad my major because I really enjoy learning about graphic design and creating art in different design programs like Adobe, Canva and Procreate. I’m honesty willing to learn whatever I can since I want to be not only versatile, but to improve my own design skills. The image I chose is a charcoal drawing I made for my Drawing I final back at Pratt Institute and I really love how it came out.

    • Mathews Vargas

I love playing Pokémon, too. What’s your favorite starter Pokémon? Also, I love the shading you did for the drawing; it really gives it character and more depth.

      • Sunny Naseem

I love Playing Pokemon too! Do you play online or the card game? For the drawing the negative space is used very well and is cropped in a very engaging way.

  7. Malachi

    Hello everyone,

My name is Malachi. I am a Junior at City Tech. I chose this major because my church got me involved in a youth competition country wide and I chose the category Graphic Design with having no prior experience. I started drawing superhero’s when I was in middle school and did some paintings in art class which made me appreciate art a lot more. I made it to the finals and came in 5th place. Due to how well I did for my first try I thought it be best to study it in college and learn more about it. Also, for me to upgrade my skills in graphic design. On my down time I like to listen music and play basketball. I don’t have a favorite genre because I think that they are all special in their own way I and just like them all the same.

    • ricky21

Nice to meet you Malachi. I struggle with drawing so seeing how great your artwork makes me feel amazed. Great work!

  8. Luis Jimenez

Hello my name is Luis. I’m in my third year at city tech college pursuing to become a designer in the graphic design industry. I spend most of my time creating for my instagram account @creationbyforlan and informing myself about new things in the graphic design industry but as well other things in today’s world. I listen to a BUNCH of music and recently started to get into the habit of working and listening to podcasts. I enjoy films as well as making short content videos, I have a goal to work with A24 in the future and I believe what triggered this idea was by me watching “Marcel the shell with shoes on”. My goal is to become a freelancer where I can have my own creative freedom and clients which can give me the opportunity to travel, I feel that going to different parts of the world can expand my mind and become a better designer but also grow as a human being. 16. Melanie Martinez

Hello! My name is Melanie I don’t know what it is I want to do yet as I’m still discovering myself and what I like. However, I want to pursue graphic design and maybe photography as I find both quite interesting. COMD got me into so many things that I was really never interested in before so I’m excited to learn and discover more. My favorite movie is A Silent Voice directed by Naoko Yamada, and it’s a movie that really moved me with how relatable the protagonist is. The story and animation are also really beautiful. During my spare time I enjoy listening to music, watching anime, reading web novels, and playing games.

  17. Mariela Ramirez

I am interested in going into editorial design after I graduate. I chose Communication Design as my major because it was also my major in highschool and it was something I enjoyed learning. I enjoy reading books like ‘The Kite Runner’, ‘How to Not Give A F!%$K’, ‘Milk & Honey’. I enjoy listening to Tems, Cash Cobain, Sza, Sleepy Hallow. I like watching ‘Pop the Balloon’ on Youtube and different vloggers. I rarely play games unless it’s in a social setting like a drinking card game or a questionnaire game with a group of friends. In my spare time I enjoy playing with my dogs or walking them with my cousins and his dogs together, eating/making charcuterie boards for family nights, and cooking. I would say a lot of my creative influence comes from brands with a modern approach to their advertising like ‘Pattern Beauty’ by Tracy Ellis Ross or ‘One Size’ by Patrick Starr.

Attached is a link to a OOH campaign ad I did for a comd class I had last semester for ‘Pattern Beauty’
