Mariela Ramirez’s Profile
My name is Mariela Ramirez. I was born in Brooklyn and moved to Queens with my family when I was 11 years old. I am now 22 years old turning 23 on the 1st of March. I currently work full time as an authorization coordinator for a health insurance company. On my downtime I enjoy working out at planet fitness, cooking and making cocktails. As a chef, I can make pretty much anything but, as a newfound home bartender, I have about 7 drinks on my roster that include mint mojitos, a sugar cookie martini, a cranberry lemonade margarita on the rocks, a frozen passion fruit margarita, a lemon drop martini, an original on the rocks and a sour amaretto (which is my personal favorite). One of my passions besides graphic design is making music. My artist name is Clara Luz ( named after my grandmother ) and I recently released my first music video on youtube. Some artists that inspire me are Daniel Arsham, Paulo Fame, Uzumaki Cepeda, Cheyenne Boya, and Akilah Watts. One of Akilah Watts favorite works of mine that inspires me is her painting titled “ Just a Roll and Set “ because it reminds me of my childhood growing up and going to the hair salon with my mother and grandmother every Sunday afternoon after church.

COMD 2300 Communication Design 1 Spring ’24
This is a foundation course in advertising and graphic design. Students are challenged to combine foundation skills with conceptual thinking in order to develop creative solutions. Students develop the ability to communicate ideas visually through art direction, and verbally through copywriting. Project-based assignments from concept through digital output challenge students to consider the relationship between the product, its’ target audience and marketing objectives. Students learn the importance of conceptual thinking, professional execution and presentation of their ideas. Students may work in teams on the concept, design and development process.
COMD1112 Digital Media Goetz Spring 2023
This course introduces students to core concepts in the graphic communications field including typography, color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the graphic communications field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.
