Dont Blink; You’ll Miss It

I decided to do an analysis of the film poster for the documentary “Don’t Blink,” skillfully crafted by the New Jersey-based designer, artist, and Professor Yolanda Cuomo. The documentary explores the life and artistic endeavors of the Swiss photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank, celebrated for his iconic black and white portrayals of American life. Cuomo’s poster encapsulates a diverse range of elements and aesthetic choices that resonate with early 20th-century avant-garde design movements, including Constructivism, De Stijl, Bauhaus, and The New Typography. This essay aims to compare Cuomo’s work with these influential design movements, specifically the Bauhaus and New Typography movements.
