For my research paper I chose “THE-BEST-OF-JAZZ,” a poster by Paul Scher, an influential artist. This poster is a great example of universal systems and social engagement in how it emphasizes her ability to engage through use of type and composition. The layout is meant for us to pay attention to the bigger letters and then make out what the poster means by circling through the type which uses color in a way that seems relevant towards what the poster is about. Since it’s about Jazz, it stands out since it says that something is the best which can be interpreted as worth it to someone who sees it enough to eventually associate the, “Public Theater.” With how impactful Typography has become, this poster is seemingly influenced Bauhaus style through how it uses color and type in a minimalistic way to portray messages and ideals as clearly as possible.
