The Turning Points

One year in winter, snow covered all the vehicles parked on the side of the street. It was like walkin on the sky and driving cars through white clouds. That was what it looked like when I first arrived here in America, new home We all will face some difficulty in our lives. Maybe within the process of we chase our dreams or goals. Or it’s about the minor stuff that will appear on everybody’s daily life. Studying in America alone is not going to be easy. Some problems will need to be faced. These include the study method to use when English is not your first language, the new friends you will hang out with, and the future opportunities to be gain here .

It was not easy to learn a new study method when I first came to America, but I feel like this country is a land full of fun and opportunities. My parents didn’t stay here for long. They stayed shortly and then went back to Taiwan to work, leaving me behind to study abroad alone. The first day I went to school here, I didn’t know English well so I was flustered in class. Most of the time, I had to use my imagination to try to interpret what the teachers wanted me to do. Fortunately, my Chinese classmate would help me when I got into trouble or got confused by the lecture. After a period of time, I realized that I couldn’t continue this way anymore. I needed to learn English in order to further my education and communicate effectively with others. I started talking to the people around me, with my broken English, indifferent to whether or not they judged me. After serveral days, I realized no one was laughing at my broken english or my chinese accent. Just the opposite, they would teach me the correct way to say what I was trying to convey. I gained confidence by talking to people day by day. Now I am not scared anymore. I can hang out and talk to anyone confidently. It’s not neccessary to be scared to talk to people, especially because this was the most effective way to learn English. You need to be confident, no one can help you except yourself, but it doesn’t hurt to have friends who will always support you when you have difficulties in life.

Valuable friends can help you and influence you in many ways, within your young period of time. I met a lot of friends on the basketball court and began networking from it. The more friends you have in life, the easier life will be. Sports not only will make your body get stronger but also make you more confident in yourself. The most important benefit I got from playing basketball is friendship because basketball allows me to meet a lot of different kinds of people of various nationalities and ages. But differences aside, we all share a passion for basketball. Having connections with the people is important because we can save a lot of time and energy when we want to accomplish something. Friendship isn’t just about helping, it’s also about caring. One time I fell and got a concussion. I was at the hospital at that time and my closest friend heard about the news. He rushed to the hospital to see me and stayed with me until I was fine. This action melted my heart and taught me that friends are the people that will support you through the good and the bad. Good friends will bring you fly and bring you to the sky.  We will always support each other and help each other when help is needed.

America is a land full of future opportunities.  Everybody has their dreams here, they all want to accomplish something. Getting into a college is the first step towards the adult’s world. The people around me are full of potential, young and hot-blooded. As a grown up I feel the tension from money, education and family. No one wants to hire a useless man to work in their company. So my first priority is to study hard. I will learn the things that I need to learn and work hard, so I won’t waste the time and the effort that I put in. Life is too short to have regrets, and I want my life be meaningful. I am passionate about the things that I am learning now, but it’s not enough with only passion. There will always be obstacles that occur on the way of path, I will constantly think back about the purpose of this profession. Opportunities are earned not given. If you want something you need to work harder than others to be able to gain it for yourself. You can be the top man here on this land. There will be some obstacles you probably meet on the way. But it is fine, the life with full of challenges were the most valuables one. That if you work hard and forcus on your position ,one day the results were going to pay off to you, from the hard work you put in. So don’t waste your young time, do something will makes your future better, you are taking education to benefit yourself, not for others. Have passion with your life.

Studying in America alone won’t be easy. You will have some problems you need to faced. Such as the study method you going to use when English is not your first language and the new friends you will hang out with, the future opportunities you going to gain here . No matter what happens, even though you study alone at an unknown place and have no one to talk to about your deepest feelings in your heart. After all, your energy and time is gonna pay off one day. Maybe it will pay off soon or maybe it will pay off ten years later. But I still think that you are not learning for nothing, you are not failed for no reason ,there will be a reason for it. No one’s life is a straight line, there are gonna be worries, failure of things. You will learn from it, and get better later on in life. Trust yourself, chase your dream, get over it.
