Lab 4 Camera Meter

For this exercise I used a black speaker for my black background and a white paper for my white background. Playing with the exposure settings on my phone allowed me to get my desired level of light for a truly black or white image.

Lab 4: Meter

The white and black surfaces I used poster boards that I have laying around. The black and white versions look similar when is shot with automatic settings because of the lighting conditions that are pointed at the boards and also cause it’s the default setting for the exposure as well. In order for the black board to be more black and not grey was to bring down the exposure when taking the picture and for the white board it was the opposite, so instead of down I moved up the exposure setting to make the white look more brighter of a white.

Our camera has it own reflected light meter. Light will come and reflect off the surface and into our camera. When the camera is set to automatic it selects a medium gray tone.

Georgina’s Lab 4

For the white surface I used a piece of white board. For the black surface I used a piece of black fabric. The black and white photos with automatic exposure look similar because automatic exposure makes everything look more grey than white or black. To make the black fabric look black, I lowered the exposure. To make the white card look white, I increased the exposure.
