I used the top of a dresser for white and a black desk for black. To get my “exposure” I had to press somewhere on my screen to brighten up an image. I don’t know why they’re so similar. Probably because I’m taking a picture of the same thing only increased brightness at the end of the day.

I used the cover my planner for the black and my sketchbook paper for the white. In my case the black and white were not similar but had a dramatic difference when I adjusted the exposure. For the black background I lowered the exposre and for the white I increased it.
For the white surface I used an envelope and for the black surface I used a black box. In order to get the black surface to look black, I underexposed the photograph and to get the white background to look white, I overexposed the photo. The black and White version look similar to each other with automatic settings because of the direct light source.
