ESSAY#2

The Neighborhood in which I live in I could call it home because, I know everything that is around me and how everything is. So close by I don’t get stared down while I walk down the block, and people know me as the correct person I am .I could actually find people who even think about the neighborhood just like me. Even though it is not as much heights to see but im more grateful for living around houses .The Park is close by, things are so compact, it’s so serious that I can go from my house to the park in less than 10 minutes. Than be in time square where you would have to take a train or bus to travel to the closest park that is for sports in general. It’s not as much security in the part where I live compared to 42nd street. I like the food spots by where I live not because of the cost but because I could switch it up and its more closer to me

Times Square is a place you could run into to anybody surrounded by people of all different types of culture, 42nd street is nothing but sightseers. I walked by as people would take pictures of the tall building or all the advertisement. One thing that really caught my eye when I visited was March Madness college basketball supporters came out and actually set up a court for people to play basketball while its nothing but advertisements in the background I had to play because it actually felt like I was playing in a little recreational park while others were watching and anybody came on the court to take shots people in suits basketball gear it didn’t matter. It is nice being in time square because you can tell the difference between the city and a town.

Times Square: Times Square is the first thing that comes to mind when someone says New York City. It’s constantly filled with tourists and busy sidewalks. The atmosphere just gives you life. The big advertisements on the buildings, and even the people dressed up in cartoons trying to take pictures with little kids and adults. Its like a never ending experience. Stores seem to always be open. It’s a very fun place to be whenever

aaaaaaaaaaaa

Bedford Stuyvesant: My neighborhood is very quiet and ordinary. There’s a bodega in like every corner and a park in every block. It’s a good place to jog or run because the sidewalks are never crowded. It could seem lonely at times because the streets can get really empty during the late hours. You could buy lunch without spending more than five dollars. Everything is really affordable, and who can forget the lovely sound of the ice cream truck during the summer time.

Times Square on the other hand is known to be a famous tourist area, full of site seeing and shopping, not only for tourist but also for people who lived in the city their whole life. It’s known for the bright lights, Broadway shows, plays and of course live street performances. Time Square is full of street venders selling hot dogs and peanuts smelling so good and fresh you can taste them, people selling all type of art and paintings.  People will stop you to take a photo of you or even paint a portrait of you and your family. You will see people of all characters like the famous cowboy man who sings in nothing but his cowboy hat, underwear, and guitar, or you may even catch Mickey and Minnie giving out autographs and taking pictures with the little kids who look up to them.  Times Square is know as FB_IMG_1426612632561the city that never sleeps.

Times Square vs My neighborhood

Times Square: Times square being one of the biggest  tourist magnet makes it arguably the busiest place in New york City. But its not like all other busy places with a large traffic intersection , there more to it . Although times square can be crowded with traffic 24/7 but it has it own beauty towards its profusion. There,s constant flow of spectacular entertainment such as actors wearing superhero costume , advertisement of lavish lifestyle, promotions of upcoming artist , strip clubs, bars, music concerts, clubs, variety  of foods and clothing stores.FullSizeRender
My  neighborhood:   I live in fordham and its been classified as a   “ Ghetto” neighborhood. But its not just “ghetto” it,s also one the most commercial place in New York City  and probably  the busiest place in the bronx. I refer to Fordham as the times square of the Bronx. Fordham road remains crowded up until midnight and just like time square theres  also variety of entertainment where a person can find it delightful to spend some time there. The atmosphere and the diversity of fordham  is nothing like Times Square because you are not going to spot any tourist walking around with their camera or having a fun times with their friends or family instead people who come here is only for jobs and business purpose beside the local people.

Times Square VS My Neighborhood – Mohammed Mia

My Neighborhood: I live on Fordham road, it’s in the Bronx. Fordham road is like the times square of the Bronx, it’s always busy during the day but unlike Times Square it gets quiet after business hours. During the day you can see people shopping going from store to store, then there are people who can’t keep a constant job so they get hired by the business owners to advertise for them, they’re the ones yelling “free phone” or “mega sale check it out, check it out”. You can always smell different sorts of food on Fordham, there are the halal stand, pizza shops, Chinese restaurant and etc. People who are used to living in quiet neighborhoods will have a hard time adopting to Fordham’s way of life, one can’t pass through Fordham without being shoved and pushed unintentionally by other pedestrians who are also trying to get by. Even though Fordham could get over crowded and it feels like I’m constantly dodging people when I’m just trying to get by it still feels like home.

Times Square: It’s one of the most culturally diverse place in America, you can see people from almost every culture there. It’s the most crowded place in NYC, one can find anything they desire there, cloths, jewelry, food from any culture, and entertainment. There are enormous bill boards everywhere, and some of the buildings are so tall the top isn’t even visible. Times Square is extremely secured, there is a NYPD stationed right in the middle of everything, cops are posted in every corner and there are the surveillance camera that are constantly being monitored. Times Square is always crowded and busy but at night is when it truly wakes up, all the bill boards and lights turns it’s a sight to remember.

compare and contrast first draft

Williamsburg is what I’ve called home for the past 4 months now and I love it. My neighborhood may not be full of lights or tourist site seeing, broadway shows and plays, or live performances on the street. What I will say my neighborhood is full of diversity and culture, when walking through my neighborhood you see people of all different colors and shades and each all bring their own culture. In just turning one corner you can get smacked in the face by the fresh smell of food cooking, smell full of flavor that it’s almost as if you can taste it. You hear the sounds of children in the morning, you can see the little old Spanish lady who routinely looks out her window in thr morning drinking her coffee and eating a slice of bread. You see cars commuting back and forth to work, horns blwoing, school buses picking and dropping students off. Where I live is not just a neighborhood bit it’s a community full of life.20150316_082914

Neighborhood v. Times Square

Times Square v. Neighborhood
My Neighborhood- My Neighborhood, located on 191st & Broadway in Manhattan, is one of the busiest streets in the Washington Heights area. As you walk into my neighborhood you immediately feel the heated energy of hard working individuals in their respective stores going by on their day to day routine. Cars are always passing by, and People are always walking on the sidewalk. In addition to being a busy street for the fact that I live on Broadway and having so many small businesses, my neighborhood is located in between two very important train lines and bus routes. The 1 train is located on 190 & Broadway and the A train located on 191 & Bennet Avenue, the next avenue to the West of Broadway. The M100 and Bx7 buses are right across the street from my building. My neighborhood is very active and awake. At night, almost nothing has changed except for increased volume. My neighborhood contains 3 bars, and 2 restaurants, and 1 Cigar smoke shop which results in very loud music being played starting at 7pm, and a Cuban Cigar aroma from time to time.

Times Square- Similar to my neighborhood, times square is a busy street filled with individuals and businesses all over. The cars are passing up and honking and slithering themselves around the heavy traffic. Times square smells like a kitchen, in a good way. The smell of food in the air, coming from restaurants, makes you hungry almost instantly. Theres also a lot of advertisement, promoting movies, tv shows, and more restaurants. The neighborhood is also very loud. Theres also a lot of tourists and people walking up and down.

Essay #2 summary

Vanessa Espin

Times squares is like no other, tall lightning buildings with large TV screens that advertise movies, Broadway shows, food, etc. The people are from all over the world, tourist who stop for pictures, or to just stare at there surroundings, and locals who are usually in a rush, zigzagging there way to work, or home. Children always stop to take pictures with Elmo, Mickey Mouse, Spiderman, and many more cartoon characters that entertain the streets of Times Square for a living. However, this in not the only kind of entertainment you will find here. There are artist who perform for a tip, and those who go to the extreme like the naked cowboy, or the dancing Brazilian carnival women. There are a variety of Broadway shows playing, theaters, concerts, places to eat, almost an endless entertainment experience that will cost you a lot of money. The small food trucks are at every block, making the streets smell like hot dogs, and peanuts. It gets very loud with sellers shouting their promotion of the day, people talking loud, the beeping of the cars. Traffic is terrible here. The streets are filled with yellow cabs, and tourist buses. The subway is the best option. It has many Train options, that head to all boroughs.

Glendale, Queens is the neighborhood I live in, is pretty much quite all the time. The only thing I hear is the sound of the cars passing by, and cats. Everyone has a cat in this neighborhood. There is almost everything down Myrtle Avenue, supermarkets, laundry, salon, spas, bakery’s, etc. The options to dine are delis, pizzerias, Chinese food, German restaurants, and one dinner. The cost of entertainment and food is reasonable, you can eat with five dollars and head to the movies or the park. There is a small outdoor mall called “Atlas Park” where there is a movie theater, a few retail stores, and dinning places. The large forest park is very close too, love going there in the summer. There are no close by train stations, you would have to walk to the M (15 min), or there are buses like the Q55, B13 that take you to the L train. Some buses take you directly to the city, like the QM24, and the QM25.

My Neighborhood vs Time Square

Time Square: The noise, the lights, the insurmountable amount of people. You can’t throw a stick in Time Square without hitting an advertisement or someone in a costume taking pictures with tourists for tips. Time Square is a tourist haven for people who want the “New York City Experience” when they find themselves on the island of Manhattan. There’s always a cab to take or a restaurant that you can find in any small town.

My Neighborhood: Maspeth is the kind of town where you have 6 pizza places you could walk to within a few minutes. It’s quiet and not much to look at. The 2 elementary schools and middle school in the area make the weekday afternoons noisy and crowded. Once upon a time Maspeth was a majority Italian and Polish, but with the changing times it’s diversified into a melting pot.
