The CEO of “iFixit” states, “grammar is my litmus test… If job hopefuls can’t distinguish between ‘to,’ and ‘too,’ their applications go into the bin” (Is Our Children Learning Enough Grammar to Get Hired?). Creating discriminatory decisions against an individual in the work field is undeniably askew. Prejudice based on poor grammar results in cultural shunning, descriminaton of economic classes, and the unjustly elimination of indivuals from the elite minds.

Should a person lack of grammar or bad grammar affect or pose a threat to their job opportunity. How would you feel if you where made aware that your application was tossed to the side for lack of or bad grammar. In the article “Good Applicants with Bad Grammar”John Mcwhorter argues that a person who is unable to understand the difference between its and it’s may not be offered a job handling legal documents, but it shouldn’t affect their opportunities for other jobs that are not requiring for an applicant to up hold prefect grammar. John Mcwhoter states ” after we pat ourselves on the back for upholding grammar standards, how many of us can really justify barring someone from a decent job because he or she isn’t always clear on the difference between “your” and “you’re”, the fault is not in the applicant and this doesn’t characterized them as lazy, but its the fault of the education system itself.

Should a person’s grammar pose a tangible threat to their job opportunities? A response to a New York Times conversation starter written by John McWhorter argues that while a person may not be offered a position drawing up contracts if they cannot properly grasp the concept “to” and “too”, it should not affect their prospective jobs in other fields that do not require such skills. McWhorter argues that, “Anyone concerned about applicants’ grammar is probably dismayed at the state of public education today…” (McWhorter). He implies that the Public Education System is part to blame for the rising lack of grammatical understanding in applicants today.

Grammar has always been a key for job history with individuals able to write and perform well with English. Grammar can give you the proper appearance to a boss that is looking for a person with smarts.Today on the English regents many errors that are seen when a person is applying for a job are excepted on the actual test. McWhoter had been discussing the key of grammar in order to get opinions across to help put people in the right state of mind to work on grammar .

John McWhorton believes that it is wrong to judge an applicants credentials based on their grammar, this is true because applicants should be judged based on the job requirements, public school in the U.S doesn’t prioritize grammar so some never tries to get better at it but they could be very skilled at the job they applied for, and finally applicants from foreign country who’s first language isn’t English may lack proper grammar but could be more qualified for the job than applicants with proper grammar.

In John McWhorton’s response “Good applicants with bad grammar”. He believes that it is wrong not to consider one with poor grammar for a job. This is not true because most jobs involves writing in their own way. It is required we have the basic knowledge and grammar skills to fulfill our role at any jobs; as it is a reflection of how we represent the company.

Although good grammar is an important skill, it is not on everyone’s list of expertise. This should not dictate a person’s intellectual capacity nor should it be a reason to discard an applicant whose career doesn’t require much writing.

How would you feel if you knew you had the greatest idea, thought, response, or concept but some reader couldn’t understand it due to bad grammar? How woild you know if your grammatically incorrect? Many writer ideas are misunderstood because they forget to proof read to spot any grammatical errors. Grammatical errors are serious problems when you need to comprehend your idea. Although grammar is important some are unintentional but drastic when it comes to getting your point across.
