Writing Task Mentor Quote-Amadou

“you saying you gonna get richer than me has to be one of the funniest thing I heard from a student yet. You don’t lack the level of focus and the drive to make something special, don’t ever compare yourself to me you don’t know what It takes”-Teacher

This quote right here was from my English teacher from my junior year of high school. I find this quote funny because I seen teachers like this on tv shows and this was the first time I had a teacher like that, a teacher who disrespects and tries to degrade their students based on their behavior and different mindset. This teacher used to always let my class know that we were behind on the level of a regular junior in English class. He also blamed this on the English teachers we had in the past for sophomore and freshman year. One day in his English class a student and I were arguing over something and the teacher decided to have me step out to speak with me. After we went to to hallway the frustrated teacher went on his rant to show his character.

The teacher told me someone like me will never be successful because I am not driving. I said to him “I’ll be richer then you in the next 5 years, humble yourself your word is not say so”. After that that was when he said what he said. I remember this quote because I find It interesting how people think you have to act a certain way or know the same things they know to be successful. That thinking doesn’t make sense to me at all because there are so many different people in the whole world who managed to be successful and wealthy with their own individual knowledge and personality. I know I am going to be rich at a younger age then a lot of people and I find it funny and crazy that this teacher felt certain that he can limit where my potential would take me in life.

  1. Amadou: I empathize with you. Hearing these words from a teacher is very hurtful. I think the teacher’s job should be to help and encourage student. Although different teachers have different ways of doing this, the fact that you felt the sting and insult from his words shows that he was out of line. He was putting you down. And yes, he sounds like one of those mean teachers in a TV show. I hope the future stars you as the hero of the show — SHOWING HIM!

I like your idea that: “there are so many different people in the whole world who managed to be successful and wealthy with their own individual knowledge and personality.” It’s true. People are different and individual beings. We all have different talents, and there are different paths and different ways to measure to “success,” happiness, a fulfilling life.

GOING FORWARD WITH THIS PIECE OF WRITING:

You write: This teacher used to always let my class know that we were behind on the level of a regular junior in English class. He also blamed this on the English teachers we had in the past for sophomore and freshman year [give the exact words the teacher said!]
You write: One day in his English class a student and I were arguing over something and the teacher decided to have me step out to speak with me. After we went to to hallway the frustrated teacher went on his rant to show his character. [Good place to create a scene with details, description, and dialogue here: Show this argument with the other student and the teacher stepping in. Show me this teacher’s “rant” – let the reader HEAR these exact words.]

You write: The teacher told me someone like me will never be successful because I am not driving. I said to him “I’ll be richer then you in the next 5 years, humble yourself your word is not say so”. After that that was when he said what he said. [Good, now show the whole convo, the whole dialogue here. Make it powerful!]

QUESTION: You put a lot of emphasis on rich and successful. Examine your thinking here: Is rich successful your ultimate goal in life?

NEW PARAGRAPH: he said. HERE I remember this quote because

How have this teacher’s words motivated you? What have you done differently? Can you think of a specifc moment when you were facing a difficulty and when these words echoed in your mind and spurred you to change and in what way?

  2. That teacher was a hater who saw the potential in you so he tried to talk down on you knew you would do better than him one day. Teachers that talks and treat students like that are miserable and were probably lames in school so they got bullied and mistreated. He’s a joke a real teacher wouldn’t say that instead they would find a way to get the class up to speed or at least make sure you all learned a lot of positive lessons. Things like this can make you or break you just make sure you use all the hate he threw your way as fuel to help you reach your goals.
