Reading response to Malcolm X- Mateo

Quote 1 paragraph 8- “Anyone who had read a great deal can imagine the new world that opened. let me tell you something: From then until I left that prison, in every free moment In had, if I was not reading in the library, I was reading on my bunk. You couldn’t have gotten me out of books with a wedge. Between Mr. Muhammad’s teachings, my correspondence, my visitors–usually Ella and reginald–and my reading of books, months passed without my even thinking about being imprisoned. In fact, up to then, i never had been so truly free in my life”.

Malcolms whole life changed when it came to learning and reading these books and felt as if he was looking through a whole new perspective. He was non stop reading and learning from the dictionary where and whenever and lived in his own little world worry free. As time passed on he hadn’t noticed months had passed since he was so hooked on reading and serving time in prison didn’t seem to phase him and had felt as it was the best thing that happened to him and where he was truly free. This all showed how significant and how powerful the learning and reading power was to him even though he wasn’t in the best condition and made the best out of it.

Quote 2 Paragraph 10-” Fortunately, right outside my door was a corridor light that cast a glow into my room. The glow was enough to read by, once my eyes adjusted to it. So when “lights out” came , I would sit on the floor where I could continue reading in that glow….. I knew right there in prison that reading had changed forever the course of my life. as i see it today, the ability to read awoke inside me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive”

Malcolm was extremely determined to read at any chance no matter his obstacles. He would make the best out of his situation by using prison night lights to continue to read past the bed time. He would also time the nightly guard timing to make sure he never got caught. Then realizes the reading changed his live and gave him some sort of purpose to be more awake in the reality which was happening outside of prison to black americans and help them with his determination.
