Mary Wollstonecraft is writing this letter to address the issue of woman’s rights Wollstonecraft sees the issue as a problem because the people of France has forced women to act in a way that is not equally fair. In France, women do not have the opportunity to do things that men do. They aren’t given the correct knowledge or education so instead, they are more forced to do one thing and that thing is based on caring for a man. Wollstonecraft says, ” If you are going to exclude women, without consulting them, from sharing in the natural rights of mankind, then defend yourself against accusations of injustice and inconsistency by proving that women don’t have a reason.” Wollstonecraft is proving a point that the men in France are controlling and have forced women to only care about their needs. I would identify Wollstonecraft’s discourse community as a women rights activist or any women powerful movement. Wollstonecraft would be a part of this group because she is trying to inform the outside of the issue and get it to change.
