Scene:

There are many different community’s that many induvial come from. We all seem to learn from them and develop with it as well. So, in my community we seem to play with different words. In other words, we seem to have different terms for words. For example, the word Aguas. In my community they use the word Aguas in many ways, but they phrase the word as “watch out”. But in reality, the word Aguas actually means water.

So, this one day on a Saturday morning around ten something my parents had bought some bread and decided to prepare some hot chocolate for me and my siblings. So, my siblings and I decided to contribute and help set things up. In which case I decided to serve and pour the hot chocolate in the cups. But as I began to walk to my kitchen, all I heard was one of my parents’ shout out Aguas esta caliente. In which case they wanted to let me know oh watch out its hot.

So, I agree with the professor that we’re all part of multiple communities and a couple of communities that I’m a part of that I would have to say is soccer community and an art community. The reason why I would say a soccer community is because there’s a lot of communication going on throughout a game. As for language the way we communicate is coming up with our own words and making it have meaning between us teammates. For example, as we engage on the pitch, we would use words like “man on” or “through ball” or we would even make movements with our body such as when we have a corner kick, we raise our hand up to know we going to stick to the plan. So, all the movements and words phrase we would use on a game were practiced beforehand during our training so we could prepare ourselves. Furthermore, in an art community I had to learn the language of an art student because there was different terminology. For example, a couple of words that I learned were baseline, Vanishing point, Abstract, Focal point, and many more. The way I learned this language is from being a student and listening to my teachers on how they would describe and explain during a lesson. Honestly there are a couple of words that are help me feel like I’m in an in-crowd which is VPR and VPL. The definition for VPR is Vanishing point Right and VPL is Vanishing point Left.

After reading “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” a thing that I found confusing was when it stated “Which is why it’s important to remember Fuku doesn’t always strike like lightning. Sometimes it works patiently, drowning a nigger by degrees,”. The reason I found it confusing was because it made me wonder why he used the language he used or why he even uses an example like that. What I think the writer was trying to do throughout the whole passage was talk about things that they have experience or even mention about words that they there familiar with. So, a place in passage that I found difficult and got caught up on was when it stated “it’s perfectly fine if you don’t believe in these superstitions. In fact, it’s better than fine it’s perfect. Because no matter what you believe, fuku believes you”. I didn’t exactly get caught up with the whole sentence, but I only got caught up with the little part where he states, “no matter what you believe, fuku believes you”.  The reason why I got caught up here because I actually want to know what he actually means by this for example what I get from this is that fuku is always out there and it comes and goes.
