English Composition II

weekly assignment: day two

In the article, Mike Bunn says “You are an author.” What I think he means by that is how we implement our thoughts into everything in our daily lives, whether it is texting, sending an email, writing a blog or essay, poem, etc. We use words every single day into writing. We’re just as creative as a published author is. We use informal writing in our lives daily, and formal when it’s necessary. For me, whenever I do write, I put whatever my thought comes to. Majority of the time, it is through texting where I go on about how my day is or even give advice when asked. That makes me feel like an author the way I put sentences together with meaning in it. I am now currently in this English 1121 course, where I am now typing how I am an author, that makes me an author right now. The way that I use words daily to write, whether it is informal or formal really strengthens my ability to have better skills in my college reading and writing career. When writing essays or short answer questions, I know how to tell the difference between informal/formal which gives the ability on how to properly use correct tenses and the right grammar.

What I noticed in Mike Bunn’s article was how to hook readers into your writing. Whether it is asking a rhetorical question or starting off with a famous quote, and then getting into topic about it is what makes the reading more interesting. I would like to try that method of his because I do believe that whenever I do write essays or short stories, I would like to engage my readers keeping them interested and getting a deeper comprehension of what I am writing. It makes you seen as a good writer when you are able to hook your readers.
