final project statement and mood board

For this project I have decided to go with something a little different, and that are 3 command malls. Queen center mall, Green acres mall and Roosevelt field mall are the most attracted malls that people go to for shopping. Over time these malls have attracted different sets of crowds from younger to older people. Each mall has its own pace and variety of stores and people. The mall is somewhere that I find myself going to a lot when I’m stressed and have free time. The mall various amount of lighting and shadows coming from all over. The mall is an unpredictable place it can either be very crowded or very empty. This place is a somewhere that you can enjoy alone or to go hang out with friends and family. I feel that going to 3 different places would show how different each environment are for them. I would like to try to capture some most common stores that either really busy and/or empty I would use a higher shutter speed to capture the peoples movements. I can take long shots to capture a store or the hall. I would also like to play around with the exposure to see how the pictures will come out knowing that there’s a lot of light coming from most places.

For this project, I plan to take pictures of the MTA subway, more specifically the trains and its environment. Ever since I was little I’ve been very immersed with the MTA subway as it was one of the only ways I would get around, either to school or just to go somewhere with my family. I’ll mostly be aiming to take pictures of how it was for me and how I felt to be at the train station. It’ll have images of rush hour, the station itself, and just how it can look at moments with the train leaving and coming in. I will be taking pictures in Queens and Manhattan because those are the only 2 boroughs that I’ve been to when I was younger. I’ll be taking pictures from both outside stations and inside stations to show two different sides of the spectrum, with some images being from across the other side of the station. I’ll also capture an entire day cycle from morning to dark.  I do plan to use leading lines, fill the frame, rule of thirds, and maybe 1 or 2 oblique angles. I want to capture the current state of the MTA and with that being said, from my experience it’s gotten a lot worse when it comes to rush hour, I remember it being bad but not this bad. Though it still retains a lot of its features that I still remember seeing for the first time as a kid. I’ll be using long and wide shots with good spacing for the image to be visually interesting. I do plan to lower my shutter speed for a few shots to capture people within the station commuting and the train either leaving or entering the station to give it that blur effect in my images.

I have recently moved to a different borough, but I would definitely like to showcase my old neighborhood in Brooklyn. Brooklyn was where I had grown up and was raised and there are a few things I have missed since moving. It would be nice to go showcase my old local areas and people. I was thinking of showing my journey from school to my old home, especially as a kid, but then again, I would like to show the stores and places that I grew up with since I was young. For example, this one particular bakery, I always shopped at and became a regular customer. I know the guy who works there and I am wondering if he would be available for a small photoshoot. Same for this food stand and taco truck. I bought them many times and know them well enough. It would be cool to incorporate some faces of Brooklyn and capture the Brookln life at Sunset Park. I also can’t forget the one and only Sunset Park. It was a child’s dream and heaven when going to that park. Sunset Park has been my go to for many things. To relax and to simply breathe. During quarantine, I would take a stroll there to clear my mind and while it has been remodeled and changed, I don’t think it would change the way I still view it. I would like to incorporate many action shots if possible and portraits. I would also keep a very warm and welcoming theme, therefore my photos would have to be taken during bright days or times. If things don’t turn out the way, I wouldn’t mind going for a more busy Brooklyn life and go with night shots and afternoon shots.. I think most of my pictures would be close and medium shots. I would perhaps go with long shots for landscapes or streets. I would very much like to incorporate every technique learned and explore as I go.

Final Project Statement and Mood Board

For my final project I’m either going to take pictures of some places that have been a good part of my childhood and life or different pictures of places and things that interest me. The goal is to capture my interests well and it will create a sense of story through my point of view. I will be taking photos in Manhattan and Brooklyn because that’s where my enjoyable places are located. I will aim to do different techniques like rule of thirds so the spacing will look good and leading lines so the lines can lead the viewer in a certain direction. I will also take long and medium shots and use different angles of view to make the photos visually interesting. I will have a mix of pictures of different neighborhoods, parks, basketball courts, and other fun places. I want color to have a good effect on my photos and I would like it to be different for the photos and fit in well with the mood of them.

Here are some photographers that I will have some inspiration from:

Mihar Kathiriya

Final Project Statement and Mood Board

For this final project, I would take pictures of either my daily activities in life or the places I normally go to. It’s like a day in a life type of deal, to show what I see in my life and how I view places and people. It’s a fun way for the audience to see what someone else sees and examine how different or similar their communities are. I will show you all the places I’ve been and go to. Places like my home, neighborhood, School, my hangout sessions with my friends, and wherever my daily routines take me. It is also a good way to show a time capsule of a point in my life and it’s fun to show an audience what someone’s daily routine is. For this assignment, I think I will use all sorts of techniques like wide shots, close-ups, lighting, shadowing, and different types of camera angles. Different angles can give a different sense of immersion in how they see a picture of a setting. I don’t really have a specific location to shoot, like I said I’ll most likely take shots at my neighborhood and school location. For my Neighborhood, it can be a hard place to crack down because I live in 2 specific neighborhoods because I have one on my mom’s side or my dad’s side. It’s hard to say if I have to choose a specific location I usually go to but I think it would be fun to explore my neighborhood even more.
