Nowadays education has become the most important and valuable things in our life. Our world is constantly changing and developing. In this modern world we need to be educated to be able to live and survive in the modern society. Proper and good education is really important for all of us because education teaches us how to become an intelligent person. Education gives us knowledge, values, skills and a better life. In order to live a good and peaceful life, we need to be educated. In my life education is important but to learn and experience something new everyday is also important too. For me we just don’t get knowledge from books and articles. We also educate ourselves from many experiences. In my life I have experienced two different types of education from two different countries. And I find myself lucky on this. Because not everyone can experience what I have experienced already. Today I want to share my 8th grade english final exam experience. It was in my country before I came to the United States.
I was born and grew up in Bangladesh, which is my country. In my country the education system is very different from the United States. In my country there is a lot more competition in the schools than here. I remember I was one of the best students in my middle school and I kept my position until I got here. I want to share my english final exam experience here. I was in 8th grade. I was taking my state test which was also my final exam in 8th grade. My exams were going good. It was a sunny day after I finished my math exam and I got home around 4pm. I was happy and tired. Right after I got home I remember my mom was in front of the door and waiting for me just to ask me if I was okay and how was my test? I replied to my mom with a happy face that I did really good and my day was great. After she heard from me she told me to go to the bathroom and wash my face and hand. After I washed my face I came to my room and she called me to eat. I went to the kitchen and I ate rice and some other spicy food. While eating I was thinking and smiling that when the exam comes my mom always treats us better. She always makes our favourite food. After I ate I came to my room and I started looking at my books and suddenly realized that my english exam is tomorrow. I got nervous. I still don’t know why but I used to be very nervous about my english exams. I started opening my books because I knew that If I want a high average grade I have to memorize everything in my syllabus. I started studying. Suddenly after 2 to3 hours I started feeling sick. I called my mom and she told me I had a little fever. I didn’t care about my fever. I took the fever medicine and started studying again. I studied the whole night before my exam.
After studying the whole night I woke up the next day for my english exam with my little fever. I get ready with a nervous face. I ate my breakfast because I knew if I got hungry I would forget everything and I would not be able to write anything. Then I went to the school where I was supposed to take my final english exam. It was a public school and also an education center. Like every other day I went to the classroom and sat in my place. In my country when its final exam teachers from the school decided your seat and put your name there. You have to go to the correct room and find your name on the desk. It was 9 am in the morning. I started my exam. It was going well but at the end when I was writing my essay I forgot the last part. I didn’t know what happened to me but I completely forgot the last part. I got really scared. I didn’t know what to do. So I asked one of my friends to help me but unfortunately she was stuck too. It was only a three hours exam and I had only half an hour left to finish the exam. At that moment I stopped writing and started thinking that If I didn’t do well I am not going to get a 5.0 GPA. Because the highest GPA in my country for a state exam is 5.0. Only if you get 80 above in your every exam then you will get the 5.0 GPA and I wanted that. I had a 5.0 GPA in 5th grade state exam and I wanted that again. So I started writing again. I finished my essay with my own words. Then I submitted my exam at the correct time.
After a month finally that day arrived. It was the time when I was about to get my results of my exams. I was nervous and scared. I was quiet the whole day because I was worried. Then in the afternoon around 6pm my dad came home with the results and gave my result paper to me. I saw my result and I didn’t get a 5.0 GPA. The one thing that shocked me was that I did really well in my english exam but only in one subject I didn’t get a 80 which is Bengla and it is also my own language. I had a 78 only for 2 points. I didn’t make it. I was sad but my parents told me that it doesn’t matter what is your gpa in your transcript, the one thing does matter right now is that you did really hard work and you are still a successful student. They also told me that they are really happy and proud with my result.I had the highest gpa in my whole class. Sometimes when people think that something is really hard for them and they start working on it and they actually did the best on that thing because they gave their 100% on this thing and forget about others like I did. I thought Bengla is the easiest subject for me because that’s my language and I started learning Bengla since I was born. But the result was unacceptable and something else than I was expected.
It was a great experience for me and I will never forget that experience. This experience teaches me to never take one thing very seriously and not to forget about others. Don’t put yourself completely on one thing too much. It also teaches me that you don’t only get knowledge from books, you have your own knowledge inside and you just need to know how to use them at the correct time. If I didn’t finish my essay I would’ve gotten a bad grade in english too. But I believed in myself and I finished it. It sounds funny that to write something in my own words why is that too difficult for me because in my country everything is different. If you write exactly the same as the book the teacher will give you a 100 in your exam no doubt. Because that’s how they grade students’ papers there. But when I came to the United States then I realized that No! you don’t have to memorize the book to get a good grade in your exam. I saw that here in high school they don’t even use books. After I got here I got to know more about myself and about my skills, my knowledge etc. So this was my experience on the day of my english final exam in 8th grade where I learned that I can do better in anything at any situation if I believe in myself.
