Writing Consultation Office Hours
Initiated in Fall 2020, WAC Writing Consultation Office Hours (formerly known as WAC fellows office hours, writing tutoring sessions) continue to be available to students of Office of the Provost WI-certified faculty members. Office of the Provost WI-certified faculty members can direct their students to WAC writing consultation office hours for guidance on writing assignments. These one-on-one office hours will allow students to get feedback from a WAC fellow in the process of producing an assignment for a City Tech WI course. See below for FAQs.
Who can attend WAC writing consultation office hours?
Any student enrolled in a course taught by an Office of the Provost WI-certified instructor at City Tech.
When are consultation office hours?
Select dates during the semester are communicated to Office of the Provost WI-certified faculty by the WAC coordinators.
How long is a consultation session?
Students can sign up for 20-minute sessions.
What do students need to do to prepare for consultation?
Students will be asked to submit a piece of writing along with the class assignment by 6pm the day before their scheduled session. Once a student has scheduled a session, they will be sent a confirmation email with a link for submission. A WAC fellow will review their work in preparation for a conversation about next steps for improvement.
What should students expect from consultation office hours?
WAC fellows will focus feedback on higher order writing issues. This means that sessions will not extensively address copyediting. Instead, students will have an opportunity to think through the overall structure of their writing piece, how to address the assignment requirements, and how best to explain and support their reasoning.
How can students register for a consultation session?
Students need to talk to their instructor about their interest in having a WAC writing consultation session. If the instructor is WI-certified, they will provide students with the details about how to register for the session.
What if students’ instructor is not WI-certified?
Students may consult the Writing Center at City Tech. They offer one-on-one tutoring sessions for students at City Tech to book as well as instructive workshops this semester.
