Editorial Article- North Korea Crisis

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/906760/north-korea-news-nuclear-ballistic-missile-tests-predicted-2018-kim-jong-un-world-war-3

The missile crisis in North Korea has gotten lots of attention from the U.S and is a really concerning problem for the rest of the world.  North Korea is striving to build a missile that can reach other continents such as the U.S.  Their president Kim Jong-un is not in anyway, of stopping his mast production of deadly and distructive nuclear missiles.  North Korea has been testing their missiles for some time, alerting neighbor countries like Japan. Based on news reports, Kim has already test 6 nuclear bombs and one hydrogen bomb, it is expected that another deadly bomb will be tested over the Pacific Ocean this year 2018.

I chose this article since missile crisis has always been a problem because of their deadly destructive potential.  Today many countries with material available continue to produce nuclear bombs such as North Korea however the purpose of these countries aren’t for the well being of others but for their own malicious use.

My topic for the editorial assignment will be police brutality. I have picked out 2 credible sources that includes data and statistics surrounding the deaths-by-police count in 2017. There has been a record of 987 deaths in 2017 (second to the 995 deaths recorded in 2015). The first link, from the Chicago Tribune, gives a very nice summary of the deaths by police reported throughout 2017, as well as the causes and the issues surrounding it. The second link gives a clean visual representation of the same data collected in 2015-2017.

This is a topic that is very important to me as a young black man who often feels like his image is considered a “threat” or resemble one a “thug” and I could be #988 this year..

Gun Control & Minimum age

Gun control had been a problem for a long time. Two of the big problem are the lack of background checks and the minimum age for buying a gun. As stated in the article, one study by researcher at Northeastern University and Harvard University estimated that 22% of gun sale occur without a background check”, some gun sale doesn’t require background check to buy a gun. The minimum age to buy a handgun compare to a Ar-15 is non sense too. You need to be 21 to buy a handgun, but you can get a shotgun at 18?

Phone Addiction

Smartphones have been integrated into the lives of many people since it’s introduction in 2007. Smartphones are useful tools that act as a device that can do many things that should make life more efficient. Smartphones also makes it easier to connect with people whether it would be calling, texting, and most notably social media. Smartphones create an easy faucet for social media to flow into and people who get caught up often times spends a majority of their waking hour checking for new posts. Social media companies rely on certain mechanisms that keep the user coming  back (Snapchat badges, red notifications, refresh button, etc) which are often times very effective in keeping a person on the platform. As something that was supposed to make life more efficient now becomes a problem of the 21st century.
