Architecture has always been an interest of mine especially when traveling. It’s always interesting comparing the different styles of buildings in different cities. Living in New York City, I’ve never really took the time to notice the different types of architectural style even though I’m surrounded by an abundance of skyscrapers, high-rises, and buildings. I decided to research SoHo’s architectural history because I’ve always either hung around or passed by the area but never stopped to notice the design style used for the buildings there.

Hi Rian, you seemed really well prepared for your presentation with notecards and the presentation seemed well rehearsed. You could have gone more in depth with the specific design elements of the architecture and had a more pronounced research question. I enjoyed learning about the cast iron buildings and the u shaped windows being Italian is a great fact I’ll definitely remember!
Hello Rian, nice presentation. I still would’ve preferred if this was a video format but it’s fine. Did not know that Soho was at one point going to be completely demolished in favor of a big highway.
Hey Rain, Good topic for research project. I’ve never visited SoHo, so I’ve learnt a lot form your presentation. You were detailed with the historical value and age of each buildings. I think you could have been more precise on your design question but overall you were fluent.

Your in person delivery was so great! You were prepared and your enthusiasm for the topic was clear. I am also a fan, as you know.
You taught this SoHo baby so much. A city planner named it, it was the first free Black settlement, wow! I didn’t know about the fires, and wonder if some of it was arson, now I’ve had time to think about it. It was also cool to hear about the oldest buildings — they were my neighbors back when soot covered everything and it was all gray and black. It’s dizzying now in white, with lights.
In a recent visit to Philly I learned on the double decker bus tour, lol, that most of the cast iron in NYC was actually made in Philly and then literally shipped on boats for construction here. Very cool.
Hello Rian, I found your Presentation to be very Fascinating and informative. I’ve learned many things about the Soho District that I’ve never heard or never been to before. Learning that Soho has a Historic District which is very protected is something that is very interesting. The slides with images are a very nice touch, the text next to the images are sort of hard to see, I would try a different color for the text so they could be easier to read, Overall this is a very nice and great topic to talk about!
