My name is Brianna Edwards. I'm in my first sophomore year in City Tech. I'm not sure on what I want to do yet but I'm thinking of being an illustrator. I've drawn on paper and digital media. I also want to tell my own story through drawings. I still feel like I have many things to learn so I'm looking forward to see how far I can go.
I'm also interested in animation. I have never properly animated before but I've grown up on them and I can't just let them go. So I still watch them now.

Sketchbook- Week 8

The subjects I decided to draw for this sketchbook assignment was a Christmas fox ornament and a star fish disk decoration. One with mostly soft texture and the other with rough textures. I had to think on how I could approach this. Obviously, I should sketch everything in pencil first but how can I accurately translate the image on paper. Then I had the idea of using the three-by-three technique. I used the grip for the image and replicate it on paper. It made the prosses much easier and gets the ball rolling.

The fox ornament was cool to draw. I started inking from the fox’s black nose to its black ears. The nose was a challenge at first because I had to do different shades of black for the inner and outer nose. I pull this off by leaving some white streaks in the nose to give the illusion of a light shade of black. I did same thing for the eyes as well. I used my smallest pen 003 to ink the fur texture. This is because strands of hair are very thin, and the pen doesn’t release too much ink when I use a light pressure. This is also how I was able to do the white fur. It might be hard to see through my scanned drawing.

The starfish dictation was the most difficult to replicate because of the many shapes and patterns. Thanks to the grid I was able to draw the shapes more accurately. for the textures themselves, I have the lumps in hash shading while the textures between with dots. After inking the whole thing, I think it turned out good to my liking.

Assignment 2 part 1

I’m going to do the science.org article, ” Dinosaurs thrived until the moment asteroid hit, excavators of controversial site claim.” It talks about how the dinosaurs exactly died. From the impact itself or if they were extinct? Particular areas that caught my interest was how the dinosaurs possibly drowned from the tsunami and floods. A lot of depiction of the extinction is always had red or dark gray skies and the eruption of volcanos. So it would be interesting to illustrate a flood.

Sketchbook- Ink Warm ups

For my practice of the weights, I used each size micron pens. It was difficult to naturally get weights of each pen because the tip of pens is around. So, the only way to really get weight is if I slowly let the pen bleed on the page. It can get lighter if I increase the speed of draw the lines. The advantages I found with the smaller sized pen, were the ability to create value with little negative space without the worry of too much bleed.

My first drawing is of a person listening to music. I had the idea of the music leaking from his headphones. I visually represent them by drawing waves. I’ve chosen to use diagonals and some diagonal lines for value. I tried to experiment with the illustration by using only the lines to define his hair and face. However, it felt like the form was not defined enough so I included some outlines. Finally, I used the 003 sized pen to lines instead of inking it. In the end I like how this illustration turned out.

For my second drawing, I designed to a cat. Not one. The one that you see now is my second attempt. I didn’t like the first one because my inclusion of line strokes for the body was not executed to my liking. I drew the eyes, mouth, nose, and whiskers with a 04 pen to get the defining features. Then I used the brush pen to draw the fur.
