For this sketchbook assignment, I took pictures of a water puddle and my dog Chibi for reference. I used Strathmore Bristol Plate Surface and Sakura Micron Pigma pens .005, 02 and 03 to create the textures. It was a good learning experience because it taught me how to draw textures from reference and what I need to work on. I need to practice more on the details of the objects so they can be realistic. However, I believe I did a good job on creating the textures. The drawing of my dog Chibi is my best one because I was able to carefully capture the details of her fur to create the drawing. I also managed to add value to the texture to keep it realistic. The drawing of the water puddle was challenging, but I think I managed to do a good job. I added the stippling and hatching techniques to help with the details and values. However, I need to practice more with drawing the ripples in water as they appear to not be visible. I learned a lot about textures from this assignment. The way you need to have a good eye on the photo reference to get the textures is helpful. I had to make sure to carefully observe the photos so I can draw the textures, in order to keep the drawing realistic. I still have a lot to learn about textures and need to continue practicing in order to get better. But I believe I will master it in time and become a good illustrator. Overall, it was a good learning experience.
