Review your thumbnail sketches

  • Write your concept or concepts out in the form a of a sentence in your sketchbook if you have not already done so. Here is an example for Mint Magic.

    • illustration of a fairy bathing in a warm cup of tea
    • illustration of a friendly gypsy reading tea leaves, in the cup you can see the tea leaves form the words “mint magic” in hand drawn letters.
    • illustration of a cute baby dragon heating a tea kettle with its firey breath

You may have multiple compositions per concept.

Discuss and show your thumbnails in the breakout session and work with your classmates to decide which concepts and compositions are the strongest. Ask questions.

  1. Narrow down your thumbnails to 3 directions.

2. Take a look at the templates provided see. Do you see how you will need to adjust the art area to fit your composition? Refine your 3 ideas and revise to fit the templates.

3. Then place the revised thumbnails in the template. You will need to enlarge the thumbnail sketches to fit. Save your .psd files. Save the three separate files as .jpgs.
