New Leaders will take part in training sessions, experiential workshops and field trips to help them explore and develop their own leadership capacity.
Students will receive an introduction to the women’s rights movement, politics and policy making, campaign and community organizing, coalition building in diverse and global communities, and advocacy skills. Networking, mentoring opportunities and special events will also take place throughout the week.
New Leaders will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program and are encouraged to implement a project back on their home campus or community for which they can receive a mini-grant from the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society.

Eligibility and Application Process
The program is open to undergraduate students (or recent graduates) enrolled in any New York State college of university AND to all New York State residents who are enrolled as undergraduates in out-of-state schools.
Applicants should demonstrate interest and experience in developing leadership skills and are expected to have at least 3.0 GPA. Under certain circumstances, applicants with GPA below 3.0 will be considered, however, they must provide strong justification for why they should be considered.
The program is provided free of charge to all participants. Housing, meals and parking permits at the University at Albany are also provided free of charge to participants. (Travel expenses of applicants to and from the institute site are not reimbursed.)
Applications and all supporting documents must be submitted to the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society. All materials must be postmarked or received via email by March 1st, 2019.
Those chosen as finalist to attend NEW Leadership⢠New York Summer Institute conference will be notified shortly after.

More about: The NEW Leadership⢠New York Summer Institute is a fully funded, intensive, one-week residential program to educate college women about the political process and teach them to become effective leaders. NEW Leadership⢠New York (NLNY) is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for effective political engagement and community organizing.
NLNY, the only National Education for Women (NEW) Leadership⢠program in New York State, is administered by the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS), Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, University at Albany, State University of New York.
Graduates of the NEW Leadership⢠New York Summer Institute join the national NEW Leaders Network administered by the Center for American Women in Politics at Rutgers University.
