Week 9 discussion post

After reading the Op-Ed from Lewis Wallace one thing I like to acknowledge that is important is how he says journalists need to fight back. He also says that we should check our facts and should tell the truth. What heā€™s saying to fight back means that we need to strengthen ourselves to take down the people talking about made up stories that are distracting us. Then he says that itā€™s our job to be honest about ourselves and to learn to be honest with the audience about who they are. To learn to be honest about why we are all here and what we need to do. He believes that by claiming all of these stances, we can strengthen our position. Heā€™s also saying that itā€™s always important to have a voice and that you need to speak up. You want to live in a world where you can have your voices heard. Thatā€™s why itā€™s always important to speak up about things that are important to you.

In my opinion it’s hard for a journalist to have a neutro view and a neutro way to express themselves, maybe that’s the way it is supposed to be theoretically but not in practical terms. Journalists are also human beings and they have emotions, and personal opinions. Their job is to pass not only what is actually happening or seeing but also the feeling that can provoque. Therefore sometimes, or mostly of the time, the journalist gets too involved in a way to defend the cause and try to find a solution for the reported problem.
To be honest, in my opinion it’s very difficult to find an example of neutralism from a journalist. Nowadays all of them are taking their side and expressing their opinion, which also can and it is generating a lot of conflictsā€¦.. But on the other hand, that also might help people see the problem with their own ā€œeyesā€ and get their own conclusions. Because sometimes without the emotion exposed in each news story, maybe the readers wouldn’t give the attention needed to the subject.
