Selfiemition

The mood chosen is surprise. My first collage seemed like happiness not a surprise. While all we discuss about each of collage, some said happiness, and other said surprise. The professor said, “ what is supposed to be in your eye and mouths when surprised?”

That gave me the direction for the next step for improving my works. For expressing the feeling of surprise, I started to crop and used magazine to show that feeling.

When we talked about each other work, that made me do further lovely work. I was not satisfied with my work at some points, but I was glad to see developing my thoughts to the collage.

Mood: Angry

Focal Point: Mouth

(Yes my project is to be looked at upside down)

I had fun with this project! I didn’t like it at first but when I actually sat down and got to work it started growing on me. The biggest thing I learned from this project is how gradients and space create some sort of movement within pieces. I learned how to manipulate these two factors to my benefit in which I could use later in life.

I think I tripped a bit capturing angry. Although I think I achieved the mood to an extent, I definitely could’ve pushed it further and shown my message clearer.

The mood I went for was angry! I’m a very edgy and assertive person with an aggressive side to me, so I thought going for angry would be the option I could work and do best with.

My focal point would be the angry mouth! I tried to achieve this by creating a gradient on an elongated neck (you’ll see this in my final piece) which forces viewers to look in the direction of the mouth.

The backstory to this is pretty simple. Me and my friends went out, bill came out to one thousand, and I was left to pay it. Because of this, I’m furious and have to say! This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Either add alt text or mark the image as decorative.

The Selfiemotion project was fun to do. As you can notice, my first collage was plain and easy. when I showed it to my professor she said:” Chop, chop yourself.”
I was like what? more than this! She answered: yes, and that was all. I started cutting and playing with the pieces to show my emotion. I think I worked hard to get the final one that I will show in the final step: delivery.
I enjoyed the process and the discoveries made while trying to deliver.
What I learned from the ‘Selfiemotion Project” that with a grayscale value you can create a mood by focusing in a specific point that shows that mood, and using different values of grayscale you can direct the viewer’s eye.
In my project, using the grayscale helped me to express the movement of the chosen mood, and to emphasis the point that shows that mood. In this case, it was the eyes and the head.
However, I wasn’t fully satisfied with the result, so I kept brainstorming; that’s the final result that I will put in the next step.

Project 3: Selfiemotion

yes

Here is my final piece.

Above here are drafts I’ve played around with. When starting This project I knew I wanted to create the wavy lines around the body for the movement but I didn’t know which emotion I should choose. I played around with them and ultimately choose surprised.

project 2

For this project, I focused more on the smoothness of the textures of each photo. For the desert, I know that sand looks smooth but is actually rough, therefore, I used lines that aren’t completely straight to demonstrate that. At the same time, since the original photos made me feel very satisfied, I made the typography one as neat as possible. As for the cubes, I feel as though the flow of direction is very important so I made the lines and texts all go in a direction like a waterfall.

In the making of this project, I became very overwhelmed with the goal of the project. With the sand dunes and lettering, I really tried to explore the line work and the movements of the photo. Sand is very hard to capture movements since it is always moving and flowing. Lines are most often looked at as either continuous and non-breakable, causing the frustration while making the project. The pattern of the wool on the other hand seemed to be a little bit easier. Here are my drafts and some finished pieces.
