Writing Task Resilience–Leslie Martinez

One major struggle for me during the pandemic was staying indoors. I believe this was such a hassle for me because I’m someone who loves to be outside even if it’s to take a walk down the street and walk back home going outside when u most feel trapped at home has to be one of my hobbies. I was indoors for 80% of quarantine I tried my best to stay indoors but it was very difficult most importantly when there had to be food shopping done or I went to the store to buy myself a meal. I dreaded having to walk back and forth from my room to the kitchen sometimes just to at least feel like I’m being active. Id much more had preferred to go out but that couldn’t be done either. Being stuck in my house started to make me feel depressed.

..

Depression is absolutely no joke. You start to be less active, lazier and also start to completely forget the important things that need to be done during the day. I realize by the day that I didn’t wanna do anything I just tried to find other things to entertain me but even that I would get lazy to do. For example, something that kept me occupied was watching Netflix but sometimes Id sees myself too lazy to even open my laptop or turn on my tv. My state of mind was drained and I’ve completely changed into this person that at that point hated to even go outside because of the thought of having to get up and get dressed. I would change a lot about my struggles during quarantine but my only solution now in the present is to be as active as I was before.

  1. Leslie: Good job focusing on ONE thing: being forced to stay inside. Getting depressed as a result of lock down happened to a lot of people during the pandemic. Was netflix a coping strategy? What other strategies did you try? Some people took up yoga or other new activites through online videos. Note that Part 2 asked you to focus on ONE coping strategy.
