Quote:
“With their kindly aid, obtained at different times and in different places, I finally succeeded in learning to read. When I was sent to errands, I always took my book with me, and by doing one part of my errand quickly, I found time to get a lesson before my return.” (Paragraph 4-5). Douglas’s relationship with reading had tremendously grown in a way that it become a hobby that made me happy and kept in occupied when he wasn’t busy. For example, the quote above explains a bit about how reading became and had a huge impact on him because it was something he did even as he ran errands and waited. He still took the time to study even when he was doing something important. The point I’m trying to get at with this quote is his literacy not only had become an interest to him but it also becomes a hobby he loved to do. He consistently obtained his studying because the image of learning to read was something major to him. Literacy grew on him and impacted him in a positive manner.
