For my research topic finding relevant, current and accurate information is challenging, I have to filter carefully all researched literature.
I used the Citi Tech library database and Google Scholar for information on my research topic. Using Citi Tech’s database was relatively easy but the amount of information I gathered pertaining to my research topic was limited; I began by typing in “Instagram” in quotation marks and without quotation marks more information were produced without the quotation marks.
The internet search engine that I used was Google Scholar searching the same key word in the same manner I used in searching Citi Tech library database; the key word from my topic came up with a lot of useful information directly relating to my topic. In my opinion Google Scholar produced the best results.

Google Scholar
I must say that using Google scholar did help me find reliable, “professional”, articles. One problem that I faced, however, was the fact that I kept finding article that I had to pay for. Unfortunately for me, most of the article I wanted to use, I had to pay for.
What I liked most about Google scholar was the fact that I could see how many times that article was cited by other articles. By this feature I am able to distinguish whether the article s credible or not.
In addition, I would say that utilizing the advanced search option assisted me greatly. I feel that when I use the typical Google search I get a broad range of nothing and everything at the same time, if that makes sense. I receive so much information, that I don’t know where to start and it’s very time consuming. On the other hand, when I used the advanced search option, even though my resources were very refined, I was able to pull a lot of information from it.

Research Journal
I could immediately notice the difference when using Google Scholar, from other search engines. In class using Google Scholar in settings I didn’t know that I could access library subscriptions; I thought that was pretty helpful, especially when other classes that I’m attending require me to do so. I did find different information sources than I would have doing a regular information search. For example, searching a social networking site on Google would take me to the webpage. When using Google Scholar I searched the same social networking site and the first link took me to a online library page showing me a book on the benefits of using online social networking sites.

From the in-class activity, the use of Google scholar for advanced search created new possibilities for source hunting. One of the most interesting features of this search engine is that you can link college library databases to the search engine(up to 5) allowing for a wide range of results. In addition, the advanced search setting is more user friendly than the college’s academic database search engine. I say this because I was able to find much more relevant search results faster using Google Scholar. However both of these resources far outshines regular internet searching where the information is not as reliable and it can be difficult to find the sources you want when only using keywords. Google scholar makes life a bit easier with the available setting features, giving you a fusion of internet and database search all in one.
Scholarly Browsing
This is my third year in college and I have done multiple research papers and have never used Google Scholar for researching topics for any of my multiple papers. Today in class, using Google Scholar was very helpful. I was able to successfully find relevant information for my topic for the research paper, information that I never found when using other search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing. Using Google Scholar produced so much more important and relevant information relating directly to my topic; making it different but not difficult from using the other search engines I used previously.
A Scholarly Google.
On Monday we used Google Scholar, while using Google scholar I tried a simple search for my topic and it turned up several results that I did not see in a regular Google search. Google scholar also showed me citations that I in turn used to track down the full articles. I also used EasyBib to store some of the locations for the articles and journals that I found, EasyBib did also allow me to evaluate some of the websites addresses by telling me whether the website was credible or not. Google Scholar was nice to use but I still prefer the likes of EBSCO and Lexis Nexis academic, maybe it’s because I have spent a little more time with them but I like the way they let you narrow your search so you can choose from journals, newspaper articles to just court cases.
Scholarly Search
When I searched google scholar for atricles on my topic, I quickly used quotations and “AND” to make my search more specific. The sources I got from google scholar were a lot different from regular google searches. A regular search gave me a lot of news articles, which are opinionated to a point. However google scholar gave me articles that were more analytical and factual than a news article. Although it was harder to find more relevant articles, I did find a very good article on Lexis Nexis that I’m sure I will be using.
