  1. Anlys Maldonado

My name is Anlys, and my friends describe me as a funny and interesting person with a great sense of humor. When I meet new individuals who are excited to meet me, I immediately feel at ease with them. I’m now working to make the world a better place to live by beginning with myself. Sure, I’ve had unpleasant events in my life. Still, it’s precisely these that have shaped me into the person I am today: thankful, full of love, and driven to succeed in college because it will help me become a successful person with a good quality of life in the future. My major is Construction Civil Engineering.

Mathematics is abstract, but it is not dull, and it is not about computing. It is all about arguing and proving our core activity. It’s all about imagination, which is the skill we most admire. It is all about discovering the truth. Nothing compares to the sensation you get when, after months of deliberation, you finally find the proper logic to solve your problem.

      1. ismail

hello my name is Ismail, i am 17 year old, this is my first semester in college, and i am happy to start a new journey in this school. My hobbies is to work out in the Gem, and play basketball. i am going to study for electrical engineering because its one of my favor majors.

Math is not my favor subject when i was young, as i grew up i started to understand how it work but it was still hard for me until i went to high school, i started to practicing every time the teacher gave us homework. And then it was one of my favor subject in school, but i sill have some difficulties like always but i always try to get trough it.

  2. Victoria

Hi! My name is Victoria, but you can call me vic for short. I love to meet new people and to play sports. My friends describe me as an outgoing person. I’m honestly still trying to figure out if i want to stay close to home or go to an out of state college, but i’m excited to see what life has in store for me. My major is Radiologic Tech & Medical Imaging.
I chose topic 1. Math honestly was very difficult for me in the past, but i practiced a lot and I understand the concepts of mathematics overtime. Practicing math does honestly help, and not many people believe that it helps you become better. The only issue I have is that I forget the formulas, and I am willing to learn and become better in math.

  3. kevin101803

Hi my name is kevin but you guys can call me kev to make it easier. Im 17 and im from Ecuador, I play all types of sports but soccer/football is my favorite, im more of a quiet guy rather than a person who puts themselves out there. On my free time i play the ps4, go to the gym, or play soccer with my friends for a couple of hours. Im studying for computer science. i want to study computer science because honestly it sounds like fun and they pay good. Im excited to meet you all!
Math was my favorite subject for majority of my school years until all types of letters were introduced, after letters were introduced i got confused but still tried my best. Im still going to try my hardest to improve myself with the subject because i know the major im studying for requires a lot of math, so im hoping i do improve with math and that this class will help me with that.

    1. Victor Lee Post author

Ah, “math was great until they started introducing letters”… a common call from many an algebra student. Just remember, algebra is a generalization of arithmetic. Now you’re giving me an idea for you guys to have an essay… (needless rambling)

  4. Hans

Hey, my name’s Hanson, I specialize in not being good at introductions. I am majoring in computer science since it’s something I enjoy. I like listening to podcasts, watching anime, playing games, etc. I am of the Homo sapien species. Well that’s it.

    1. Math has always been one of, if not my favorite subject, the answers are so concise there’s a wrong and a right answer. It’s not up to interpretation, there might be multiple ways to solve a problem but they usually end in the same answer.

  5. Jonathan

My name is Jonathan, my favorite subjects are history and mathematics. I chose architecture as my major because I liked cleanliness and neat lines, I also wanted a design a house for my family when I was younger but after I couldn’t do that I still wanted to create designs for houses in the future. I enjoy reading anything related to history, technology, and cultural history. I like listening to most genres of music, I like watching documentaries and videos that entertain me. In my spare time I would usually be riding my bike but it’s being repaired so no more enjoying the sun for now.

Math was my favorite subject always until there was something I didn’t understand but eventually I could figure it out and then it became my favorite again, it’s like a switch. Understanding means it’s good, not understanding equals bad. What makes math my favorite is when I use different methods of finding the answer to a solution and getting the same result.

  6. Jazmine Nieves

Hi, my name is Jazmine. I like to write stories, I love Marvel movies & I’m a metal head. I am majoring in Radiology. I choose this major because I got my own hands on experience in working in this field & I actually enjoyed doing it & I understood the concept, so, I wanted to make a career out of it.

Was math ever my favorite subject? I would yes at one point it was but then after a while I think as the concept of math was changing during the years I started to just get “number anxiety” where as if I see a “big” math problem or it seems complicated in my eyes I just freeze up and give up. So now, math is my least favorite subject of all time.

  7. Gerard Willer

    Hello Class!

My name is Gerard. My favorite subjects are History, Sociology and Psychology. I love writing and am a huge Star Wars fan. I’m a fan of rock, both heavy and alternative, hip hop and generally any old school Pop and R&B. I’m a huge horror movie buff and I love watching comedic channels on Youtube. I’m Majoring in Computer Information Systems. I chose this major because I am into technology, I love figuring out how things work and the technical mechanics of how devices operate.

Honestly speaking, math has never been my favorite subject. It was always very hard for me to understand and get a grasp on. I tend to get nervous when looking at big equations. It wasn’t until a friend of my introduced me into the world of investing that math not only became fun for me but I realized the importance of it all. I’m looking forward to this course to help sharpen my mathematic tools and understanding. I’m eager to learn and I will definitely not hesitate to voice my misunderstandings!

I chose Was math ever your favorite subject? If so, when was it? What about math made it your favorite? If math has never been your favorite subject, what about it do you not like?
Math was never my favorite subject, I’m not great at math but I’m average. I don’t like it because there too many formulas and I don’t remember them all.

  10. Rosemary Opoku

Hi Jumer I stand to be corrected, if am not mistakenly, math is a challenge course for most students, but i think if you know what you are doing and you do really understand it well, formulas shouldn’t be a problem but rather help us to solve the problem well, but it very unfortunate you don’t remember them. for i do enjoy working math when i know my formulas, it makes my life easier. Thanks

  11. Abiel Joseph

Hi, my name is Abiel but my friends call me Abby. I’m nineteen and this is my first semester in college. I grew up in the Caribbean and I moved to America to further my education. I like to watch movies, try new foods and one of my favorite subjects in HS was geography. My major is Health Science because I plan to be a nurse. I chose this major because I always found science and the human body fascinating. That along with financial stability.
I chose topic 2. I genuinely enjoyed doing math because I understood it. Unfortunately in 9th grade, I injured my self I had to take a couple weeks off of school and that caused me to miss important notes. In the school I attended they didn’t have make up classes and because of that I was never able to catch back up. Losing my confidence in the subject I gave up and I started to hate Math. I hope this class can help me redeem myself so I can learn to love math again.

My name is Brayan Cesar, I’m from Mexico, i currently live in new York in queens , I’ve lived in queen for 17 years basically all my life as of right now, i know like the back of my hand, my academic interest is pretty much just math i don’t love it or hate it i just understand it faster than other subjects but still somehow have been taking algebra since high school.my major is electrical engineering i chose it because it really caught my attention super fast. I really don’t read ,i dont read only when class makes me. I like playing soccer in my free time.

Math is my love and hate subject because i always choke during test and when test grades come back i can do everything in my head, but i started to love it a bit more because i took a course during the summer and it made me learn many things and feel confident, i love doing find the x equations because i get those the most than other things.

  14. Michael Flores

Hello everybody, my name is Michael. I am majoring in construction management. I have been working in the construction industry for a few years before attending college because I wish to have a larger impact for the companies I work for. In my years working I’ve seen my fellow undocumented Co workers get taken advantage of by employers who disregard their heath and safety. Job security is almost nonexistent and many if not all of my past co workers have large families they need to take care of. I quit my job and enrolled in college after nearly losing my life in a ladder fall over an elevator shaft, that day my compensation was $100. Unfortunately I love construction, my goal is to change this carareless treatment of undocumented workers for whatever company I work for in the future.

Math has never been a favorite of mine. I suffered in math more than any subject. In school. I’ve given math the best shot I could but classes always seemed to move faster than I can. I receive tutoring when I need to.

    1. Tatiana B.

      HI Michael,
Its a pleasure to meet you. It is amazing to see that you are taking the initiative to combat mistreatment of undocumented workers. Its terrible to see an employer disregard safety and health measures at the expense of a worker. I know we all have to start somewhere and it is great that you are pursuing this matter with a degree. Good for you!
When it comes to math things can become confusing. Tutoring in areas that are troubling can help immensely. There were many times where I struggled with math and sought out tutoring and eventually it became easier to understand. Good luck this semester!

  15. Michelle Scotto

    Hey Everyone,

My name is Michelle and I am 30 years old. Recently decided to start a new journey in life and change my career from a dental assistant to a radiology tech. Starting out brand new is very intimidating but I am on the path to greatness and with any change comes intimidation. I describe myself as Happy, Fun, and extremely loving. I am a dancer and have a fond love for the arts. I also bartend at one of the major festivals in New York and get to come across all sorts of people, I am very new to the class, got the last seat I believe =] and definitely eager to start.

Here’s the thing though, I was NEVER good in math. Have to actually admit math is my worst subject in school. Now I am sure we have questions right? ” You deal with money all the time, how can you be terrible in math” and that statement could not be more true. I started to think, is it the anxiety of the class materials that have me so off the deep end? or am I just getting in my own head? The truth is the real world uses a different kind of math approach as what you see in the classroom. I am basically starting from scratch, I graduated high school in 2009 and don’t have any recollection to what I am in store for here but I am in it for the ride.

  16. Cait

Hey Everyone, My name is Caitlin and this is my first semester at City Tech. My major currently is undeclared but I’m hoping to get into the Nursing program when the time comes to apply. (Fingers Crossed). The reason I chose this major is because I’ve always had an interest in the healthcare field and I take pride in helping people any which way I can whether at work or outside of work. In my down time I work doing covid screenings/swabbing’s for our Public schools, Arena’s and Colleges. When I’m not at work I’m home enjoying time with my three kids.
I haven’t been in school for several years but when I was Math was my favorite subject because it wasn’t the same to learn everyday. I found a liking to math in Middle school because of my teacher at the time, she taught math in a way that made me appreciate it. I love solving problems and the best part of math is that feeling to get an answer right especially after working on a problem for long.

  17. Tatiana B.

    Hello Everyone,

My name is Tatiana Bates. I am currently in my third semester at City Tech College. I am currently working on an Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences. I chose this major in hopes of one day becoming a member of the medical field in any aspect. This degree allows me to gain entry level knowledge on jobs within the medical profession. I have always had a fascination in all things medical. I realize in order to have any sort of upward mobility in that profession a great degree of math may be required to do so. I enjoy reading and writing. I have played the violin for 13 years. In my spare time I mostly enjoy playing with my dogs and listening to new music.

Math was not my favorite subject, but it definitely came very close to English. In high school I took various math courses and enjoyed most of them. I find that if you practice a subject long enough you have the ability to become efficient in it. If you do not practice more than likely, you’ll lose your ability to. Due to taking some time off between high school and college I became rusty in certain topics. This semester I am excited to relearn these topics and improve my understanding.
