Homework #1 – Adriana Hernandez

joemcnally

My first reaction toward this photo was heartbreaking knowing that it’s a little girl extremely hurt. I was drawn to this particular photo because it’s zoomed to the girls feet and your able to notice the wounds. I immediately captured the messages of the photo. One of the message would be behind the scenes of ballet dancers. Another message that I captured was girls with tutu may look adorable but it can brutally hurt your feet. The subject is clearly since there are no background distractions. The composition of the photo is well framed and balanced on
both sides.

Homework #1 Jim Richardson

When I started to look for a photographer for this assignment, Jim Richardson is one of the many landscape pictures I was drawn to. These two pictures are some that I found interesting on his website. I like how Jim used the water to make a blur illusion of the trees. While having some movement as well. The second picture is so direct on what the photographer wants us to see. I can see the usage of the rule of thirds being shown. Also, the castle has the brightest color because everything is very dark. Not only that but I like how the grass around the castle has a much darker green which makes us look down at the castle. I enjoy landscape photography and this to me is great.

Homework #1 – Joey Lawrence

It can be said that Joey Lawrence is one of the youngest and most successful photographers of our time. He is a portrait photographer whose skills with the camera are without a doubt immaculate. Choosing a single favorite picture from his gallery is a hard, close to impossible, task. Every picture is beautifully taken and gives a sense of powerful emotion. However, one that really stood out for me is this one. The captions states “Mayama Mustafa, 60, women’s leader and village midwife, with the two children she looks after: Jeneba, left, and Nafisatu, her niece. She holds the savings bank that all women contribute to and share”.

It is powerful how the three of them look directly at the camera, how Mustafa in the middle  has a proud compusture and a strong gaze that instantly makes one think “Yes! that’s definitely a leader”. The two girls by her side stand slightly behind her symbolizing how they are being protected by Mustafa. They both stand very proud as well. The green scenery is refreshing and it contrasts with the traditional outfits they are all wearing complementing the picture nicely. One basic rule of photography is to avoid the middle, but in this case the picture is centered. However, it works because Joey’s goal is to put the focus on them and showcase them as they are.

Homework #1 Adam Pretty

The photographer that I chose is Adam Pretty who is a news photographer. What really made me interested in his work was his mini bio, seeing how he works with advertisement and photography with huge brands like Nike and Adidas was super cool. When I went into his portfolio I looked into sports action reason being is because I love movement photography. His photography amazes me because he captures beautiful shots while in motion which is really hard to do in some cases but he makes it work. I love the picture below because it looks very peaceful and is showing a message which reads to me love and peace. They are both joined together and the birds flying in motion with the humans is what makes this piece so strong. The editing with the black and white makes this stronger and the contrast and negative space makes this picture simple but very strong. Even with the city in the background the main focus is the people and birds while the background being blurry helps the symbolism in the photo.
