Gulab Jamun

Our last stop on our Jackson Heights field was at this indian Sweet shop, where i tried something called Gulab Jamun. When I look this up it told me Gulab jamun are a milk-solid-based sweet from the Indian subcontinent, originating in northern India.

My first impression was they look like small potatoes with a shiny glaze on them did not know what to expect. The smell was settle but sweet so i thought to myself it could not be that bad. When i finally try it, it taste like the bunelo i had earlier on the trip. But there was more sweet and a little sour taste to it.

Bunuelo

During our field trip to Jackson Heights, I arrived in the Patel Brothers Supermarket which grocery retail chain that focuses on flavors and foods found in in the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East.  Upon my arrival Professor Krondi greeted me and handed me this circular brown object, he said it is called Bunuelo, its basically a donut.

My first impression was thought it as a avocado because i had to cut it open with a pocket knife in a circular motion. But far as taste it was dry at it first just like a plain donut but it definitely had a sweet taste  to it, i can taste syrup, cinnamon and other spices.

CoCo Beer

During our visit in Williamsburg, after visiting the barbecue restaurant Fette Sau we discovered a small shop called Mast located at 111 N 3rd Street, Brooklyn, NY. I had the pleasure of trying their Coco Beer for the first time. I was confused at first because I hate coffee but there was something about the color of the beverage that pulled me in with it chestnut brown color. As I taste the beverage it reminded of cold hot chocolate  but it taste more like coffee soda.

Sweetchick Chicken & Waffles

Sweet chick is your small local diner/ restaurant that provides good food, cool vibes and your favorite music you can jam to while eating your meal. They have loactions 3 througout New York City, two in brooklyn and one in Lower East Manhattan. I recently visited the Williamsburg loacation (164 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY ). I ordered the classic Waffle and chicken that comes with 3 small waffles and two pieces of chicken (drumstick and leg). When i bit into that first piece of chicken i felt like i was in heaven. The chicken was juicy, the breading was not overdone, the outer texture was crispy and cruncy. The waffle was perfectly soft, not burn at all with powered sugar for final touches. And I love the fact that they had 3 different types of butter.

Prosciutto Guinness Doughnut

We now live in a era where gournmet doughnuts is the new trend due to it being cheap and decilious all in one. During our seocnd field trip in Astoria, we discover a small shop called Sugar and Water. Sugar and Water is runned by famous Chef Francis Legge where he was contestant on Chopped and won with his latest creation Proscuitto Guinnesss Doughnut. I had the pleasure of trying the Proscuitto donut, when i bit inside the donut it reminded me of a cake, had a soft moisture texture and the cream feeling was delicious as well. But what was the finish touch was the proscuitto, it complimented the cream really well. I would definitely recommend this place to others to try.
