After finishing high school , it took long time to get into the hospitality department.  I have spent three years of working in fast food restaurants to understand what I want. Through my jobs I have learned that I enjoy managing. Also I like cooking though I do not want be a chef. I am very honest, dependable, and hardworking. I am sure my coworkers will agree with me. Also, I perform better with a team. In this industry, working in a team is very important as far as I know. Plus, working hard in any job will bring success. My work experiences would help me in the future to be a great manager. I am looking forward to learn more about hospitality industry. my goal is to attain effective skills in oral and written communication, develop the ability to integrate academic knowledge, and to learn about marketing campaigns, financial worksheets, job descriptions and related exercises in real world.

A homework

All my life I was alone in the kitchen on the other side of the room watching my grandfather as he barked orders at me on how to cut and make the perfect incisions on all meat products which I then seasoned myself with wet adobo. In the heart of it all I learned there was no time for mistakes and I loved the adrenaline. Sweat and tears flowed down my face as the kitchen called my name it made me feel at home. The sound of the pots smacking against the stove as water filled the pots helped me see something each clack was like a symphony in my ears. Then the end game where presentation came the tearing of the soft pork , the steam of the rice tracing up the stove, my hands full of burn cut Marks from the holidays remind me of where I stand. I loved it this field holds doors open for everyone to shine and I want in. I love the kitchen and this field of study is gonna help me in more ways then I can hope for.

Throughout my lifetime, my home has always been filled with the joy and laughter of people during small gatherings or parties. I watched my mom go out of her way to make our guests feel welcomed and comfortable. At a young age, I quickly mirrored her and I would try my best to accommodate our guests by offering and giving them drinks and food. This sparked my passion for providing care and help to others.

I was able to exhibit my passion when I attended Long Island City High School as part of the hospitality small learning community. Not only did I learn about lodging, tourism, event planning but I was able to showcase my basic hospitality skills in school events. I always made sure to help set up and prepare for events like, school dances, parent teacher conferences, award ceremonies and talent shows. I plan on continuing my academic success and volunteer work through my years at City Tech.

Through my volunteering, I was then given a paid internship with Zone 126, a community partner with my school. I created events, designed bulletin boards, translated for teachers and parents, served food to students after school and completed basic office work. Then, I was given a paid summer Internship at the Hyatt Centric Times Square Hotel as a Human Resources intern. I worked alongside, Human Resources and took charge of my own project called Operation Backpack, completed office work and distributed food vouchers to all the employees when the kitchen was closed. I was also able to work alongside Guest Services where I created gift bags for guests and dropped them off to their rooms, inspected the guest rooms and during special occasions, I decorated guest rooms

After this internship, my love for the hospitality industry became so much clearer. It influenced me to attend City Tech, want to become a General Manager and to possibly open up my own hotels around the world. With having all these big dreams, I hope to maintain good grades, put all my effort into my school work and to enrich my hospitality knowledge.

For years now, I have developed many strengths. For instance, I am creative, a problem solver, a leader and a team player, hard working and empathetic. All of those personal strengths have helped me succeed through high school and my job experiences with zone 126 and Hyatt Centric. I plan to continue to use them and develop them thoroughly in order to grow as a professional and to strengthen my work ethic.

Throughout my lifetime, people have always been in and out of my house during small gatherings or parties. I always watched my mom go out of her way to make our guests feel welcomed and comfortable. I quickly developed this trait and from a young age, I would do simple things, such as, offering and giving our guests something to drink or something to eat. This sparked my passion for providing care and help to others. I was able to exhibit my passion when I attended Long Island City High School. Being apart of the hospitality small learning community, allowed me to learn about lodging, tourism, event planning, sustainability and so much more. I quickly became fascinated with the industry and made sure to be involved in any way I could. I did live the lifestyle of a student athlete, who was on the honor roll and had a job but I always managed to volunteer during school events. I also made sure to put in all my effort in my school work and I hope to continue that in college. During my time at City Tech, I hope to enrich my knowledge of hospitality and to become involved in the hospitality community, as I maintain good grades.

During my high school experience, I did volunteer to set up and prepare for events like, school dances, parent teacher conferences, award ceremonies and talent shows. Initially, I did all that as a volunteer who enjoyed helping out but then I was given the opportunity to work with Zone 126. This organization is a partner with my school and they are in charge of creating events, designing bulletin boards and providing free SAT Prep. As I worked with them, I would create bulletin boards, be a translator for parents and teachers, served food for the students when they attended SAT prep and completed office work. Later on, through my school, I was given a paid summer Internship the Hyatt Centric Times Square Hotel as a Human Resources intern. I worked alongside, Human Resources and was in charge of my own project called Operation Backpack. I was given a budget and I had to buy as many school supplies within that budget for as many students. I completed that task and gathered about 70 backpacks with supplies for children in need. I did a lot of organizing, office work and I distributed food vouchers to all the employees when the kitchen was closed. I was also able to work alongside Guest Services. With Guest Services, I was able to create gift bags for new guest and dropped them off in there room. I also had to inspect the rooms before the guest came to make sure it was clean for them. Additionally, during special occasions, I decorated guest rooms. After this internship, my love for the hospitality industry became so much clearer. My goal is to one day be the General Manager of my own hotel. Also, to possibly one day open up my own hotels around the world.

Throughout my life, I have developed many strengths. For instance, I am creative, a problem solver, a leader and a team player, hard working and empathetic. All of those personal strengths have helped me succeed through high school and through my job experiences with zone 126 and Hyatt Centric. As a student I always strive to do my best in all my classes. One major problem that I have is that I am good at procrastinating, but little by little I am trying my best to change that.

As a child I remember sitting down in front of the TV with my brother and watching the Food Network channel. I know it’s weird, children watching the food network, but this was before we discovered Disney Channel.  Besides the point this is when I first got introduced to the culinary scene.  The one thing that fascinated me most was desserts, anything having to do with pastries, baking, all of that I loved watching.  As I got older I started helping my mom out in the kitchen. My favorite part was making the dessert, which wasn’t so often since in my family no ones has a big sweet tooth but on occasions I would make cookies, and cakes.

Academically I wasn’t always the best student my grades were around 70 to 80’s. This is something I hope to change, because I know that I am capable of much more. I wasn’t so sure that I even wanted to go to college, but after much thinking and talking to my teachers I realize that I should at least try it out. I was always  interested in culinary mainly pastries this is what led me to find the hospitality management program here at City Tech. Now that I am enrolled in college I hope to reach and possibly exceed my expectations that I have for myself academically.

Career experience related to this major I don’t have. The only job experience I really have was working as a tutor in Kumon but that only lasted for a year since my school schedule conflict too much with my work schedule.I do hope in the near future to find a job, either it be in a bakery or anything involving culinary or pastries. My long term career goal is to open up my own bakery.

My personal strengths would be, able to work in groups, being a social person, and being a problem solver. This I believe will become professional attributes since in this industry. Being able to network will help me to move further along in my career because it will present me to new opportunities and I will be presented to new people who can help me move further along in my career.

Also, working at Old Navy for the past 1 yr. has given her the experience of working with various types of people. Has allowed her to be open as well as put her in a position to learn how to be professional in a predicament where it seemed impossible and accomplished it.

At the age of 10 she had to learn how to make bottles, cook, bathe 3 babies all ages 1-3 at the time, be able to do her homework and maintain her grades at school. It was one of the most challenging situations that she’s been put in. She was forced to grow up at a young age with such little time. She found herself being a kid taking care of children. She had to grow up quicker than others but she’s learned that it’s something that set her apart from others. She learned so many things that helped her become the person that she is today. She was taught patience, communication, strength, the importance of life. Having younger brothers and sisters actually inspired her to do better than the generation before her. She wants to let her brothers and sisters know that they can be so much than what they come from and that it’s possible. She knew that going to high school, attending college, and then opening up her own restaurant would let them know how possible it really is and encourage them as well. Opening a restaurant has been her dream for the past 3 years now and would for it to be seafood based, After getting to a comfortable space in the first restaurant she would like to open up other restaurants in different locations. She also believes that she will be successful in life and as well her her career because of personal strengths such as resilience, independence, humbleness, being able to be open-minded, ability to be a leader, emphasize, and show tough love when it’s needed.

Growing up I would always watch people in the kitchen cook. Whether it would be my mom, my dad, my aunt, etc. I would always be fascinated, I knew that I wanted to study for a job in the culinary industry. Knowing this I applied to a high school that had a culinary arts program and got in. There I learned that I also wanted to learn more about hospitality management and what it takes to run a business. Which brought me to City tech, during my first semester at City tech I’ve learned the many different terms that are used in the hotel industry, as well as many different things related to the culinary industry, which is what makes more excited to be in the kitchen next semester.

I currently still do not have much career experience, but I have helped cater at my old high school. A career goal that I still have is that I would like to one day open up my own bakery. A place that isn’t too big or too small. A place that I would be able to call my own. Before being able to make that career goal a reality I want to look for a part time job as a way to gain more experience which will be very helpful for the future, if I ever need a recommendation.

Personal strengths that I have is that I am good at working in teams, I have patience, and I’m dedicated to whatever I put mind to. After the first semester I was able to improve on my communication skills as well as be on time. These strengths have started becoming professional attributes because they have helped me communicate with people that I’ve worked with, and will continue to help me along the road.

I have an Associates Degree in Business Administration and currently working on getting my Bachelor Degree in Hospitality Management. I’m currently working at Delta Airlines in LGA as a Customer Service Agent and my main role is a Gate Agent. As a Gate Agent, I work on preparing for the flight such as giving out seat assignments, printing out paperwork for crew, also boarding the flights making sure it goes out on time. Also during irregular operations (delays and cancellations), I work on rebooking passengers onto the next available flight. Working at Delta Airlines is a career and I’m looking forward onto becoming an Operation Service Manager with the company, which is one of my career goals. Another career goal that I have is becoming a General Manager at a Hotel. My personal strengths will be, being able to work under pressure, working with co workers ideas, and maintaining customer’s satisfactions. These will become my professional attributes within my career because, either being an Operation Service Manager in Delta Airlines or a General Manager at a hotel, both deals with customer service and their satisfaction. Also, when you’re working with your co worker, both may have different ideas and different ways of working an operation. There’s going to be a type of situation that both employees will have to share their ideas in order to complete customer’s and employee’s satisfaction and making sure the job is done safely.

Growing up I remember always telling my mother how when I grow up I wanted to be a chef. I even attended a high school that had cooking, but because I had to write an essay to get into the program I said forget it and never joined it. I also remember telling people how I wanted to become a chef, but they always told me “You Can’t be a Chef if you don’t know how to cook” I believed it and it discouraged me and I always thought it had to be something you knew how to do from young.

As I got older I realized I wanted to have a career that had to do with me dealing with people. I remember I told my mother I wanted to be a social worker, but I wasn’t serious about that. Then I remember my mom telling me something about hotel management and I really took it into thought.  This was all before I started college. My Mother was telling me about City Tech because she used to attend this college and she told me about this major. I did join it a little late in my college career, but I am still excited since I see what it has to offer and I might end up switching what my focus in this major is and the semester goes on, but I look forward to it.

I was born in china and stay there for 16 years. Then i came to the United states and i have stayed for three years now. I never dared to imagine that i could go to college because i just learn English for 3 years. But I’m here now. As a student, I think i’m successful. I have studied in China for 16 years and I know the learning system in China. Then i’m studying in New York City College of Technology now. I have much experience about the West and East education system. However, i know i still have much things to learn. I want learn as much knowledge as possible when i still have time.

Although I have only been here for 3 years, I have more career experience. I have worked as a waiter, tea shop, wedding decoration, work front desk and badminton coach for a while. My goal is to do as much work as possible in different industries when I am young. But i have to choose one to support my whole life, so i chosen Hospitality management. Work experience in different industries allows me to talk to different people in this position.

I think i’m kind of popular in my friends. They all like to play with me because I can make decisions that satisfy them at important times. So i could be a leader many times because we have a lot of choice that we have to deiced in ours life. If i’m a future industry leader. I think i can do well on that job. As a hotel management, i want my guests to feel at home.
