In English 1101, there were three main assignments. Because this was my first experience completing college-level research tasks, each project was completely new to me. Each project provided you the chance to exhibit your enthusiasm for a topic and write about it, whether it was for a professional reason or to convey who you are as an individual. At first, I assumed the course was all about reading and writing about particular novels. My first project was designed to be an educational narrative, which was focused on anything you have encountered during your educational journey. The idea of writing something empowering for you to recall for the first project was clever because it allows you to gain self-confidence in what your journey was like and how you overcame your educational hardships, and now you have the opportunity to work even harder to reassure yourself that your educational narrative will be positive, which gave us the motivation to succeed in other projects we’ve done.
This brings us to the second project, which was enjoyable to construct since it focused on a topic I was interested in learning more about. My annotated bibliography focused on event management techniques and the characteristics of a successful employee. It was something I found intriguing to research since it addressed some of my concerns about event management. My annotated bibliography covers customer service abilities, communication, inventiveness, and all of the other characteristics necessary to succeed in this area. Several of the more difficult aspects of completing my study were the MLA style I was required to use, as well as locating current and reputable sources. Despite the difficulty, I was able to practice arranging and presenting something that fulfilled the standards of what a college essay should look like with the assistance of feedback and resources. MLA formatting will benefit me in future courses, but having strong research skills will also benefit me in my future career path.
My third project addressed the same subject but necessitated the development of a genre, namely a blog post. Creating a blog post with the information I acquired for my second assignment was exciting since I’d always wanted to create a blog post. When it came to writing my blog post, I encountered several obstacles, but the comments from my professor helped me in visualizing what a good blog post could look like, as well as in using my imagination and creativity to create something relevant to my intended career path. After finishing this final assignment, I noticed improvements in my writing in terms of first knowing the framework of what I’m doing and then writing at a higher level. However, I was afraid to seek further feedback and ask questions, and I still notice this issue sometimes, but I am eager to improve now that I realize how critical it is to have all crucial resources in front of you.
What I discovered about myself as a writer was that there is always an opportunity for improvement and that, at times, harsh circumstances may prepare the way for such improvement. In certain cases, having a setting that puts a little amount of pressure on you to do your best and learn from your mistakes might help you to perform better. My writing skills have increased as a result of this experience, and I am motivated to continue to grow and advance. This course has provided me with knowledge on how to do research, format an essay, and develop a sentence structure, all of which will benefit me in my future courses and future career in terms of being detail-oriented, establishing a structure, and improving my writing ability.
