Micro-Activity #17: Choosing a Discourse Community

The conclusion that my annotated bibliography has drawn is that New York City has a variety of policies and programs for the urban environment and continues to show interest and support. New York City already regulates the use of disposable plastic bags and has achieved great results with the Zero Waste Challenge program to recycle waste. City institutions also purchase plastic goods by replacing them with items made of paper, etc. I think my research will help the discourse community interested in the urban environment of New York City. If community members want to change the city environment that’s being destroyed by the use of plastic, my research will give them information about the policies and suitable programs they need to follow. Furthermore, if their goal is to create a better New York City environment, my research could introduce New Yorkers to a variety of environmental protection programs, and create a good environmental movement to improve their awareness and change the city. I think posters and short video clips are the best way to reach this community. Because if I make a poster, I can promote it to people through it, and I think video clips will also be good advertising videos to introduce various programs and policies.

Very good. You might also consider a public service announcement (PSA) –the kind that goes on a billboard or on a bus stop. You could also think of a commercial or other ad or pamphlet (to leave in mailboxes) as possible genres.
