Week 12 – Mon. Nov. 15th

Homework DUE Wed. Nov. 17th

Write a proposal that is at least 200 words. The proposal should answer the following questions in depth. That means don’t just answer the question: What is the genre. Article. But what type of article, maybe even start thinking about a specific publication for the article.

  • A 1-2 sentence statement of what you want to teach your audience (the most important thing you learned in Module 2);
  • The audience you are trying to reach
  • Your purpose (or really how you are hoping your audience will react)
  • The genre you are planning to write in and why you chose it
  • The KEY Elements of the genre (what has to be included to make it an example of the genre!)
  • A plan — how do you intend to get started?
  • Anything you might be worried about.  What are your concerns about finishing this project?

Use slides 8 through 27 in this PowerPoint to help you.

I want to teach my audience the importance of different sources that are provided to us about children and the intense use of social media. Reaching my audience directly with facts and tips to help their children or any young child they know. The audience I am trying to reach are parents because at the end It is the parent’s responsibility to be aware of how social media is drastically changing and affecting their young kids. The purpose of my wiritng is to alert parents that don’t think their young kid using social media is a big issue and to educate parents on this topic so they can protect their children. The genre I am planning to write in is a feature article. I am choosing this genre because I feel this genre is very appropriate for parents to read and understand, the structure for this article will get my point and purpose across. Some elements that I must include to make it an exampere of the genre are combining facts and opinions, provide a perspective or angle about the topic or issue, plot, complication, and adding a conclusion. I plan on reading a few feature articles before starting my own and then I plan on gathering all my key elements to structure my article. One main thing I am concerned about is having to make sure my writing falls in the genre I am planning to write about and adding every key element can be difficult.

I hoping to spread more awareness of how similar loot boxes can be to gambling and how they try to get you to spend money over some time and keep you spending. I want to reach more teenage aged gamers so maybe 13-21 and that they become more aware of how game developers try to work into wallets. I would like to write more a website based blog because I would like to have more of my opinion mixed in as well as a little gacha simulator at the top showing how it works. A blog works as a online journal where the writer shares their views on a subject. I chose this because I feel its easier to take with my opinions more than with pure facts and would like to have the option to ramble about my side. Im not too sure how to start but I know that I want an interactive simulator some where where the reader can play with their luck and see how much money would have been spent had it been real. It would be looked to as biased and maybe a bit cautious than what I would like it to be.

With gacha games and loot boxes being my topic for this, I want to make a poem, based about a boy and his slow start to his gacha game addictions. I want to teach my audience that only they have the power to stop their addictions, they have the choice to say no and put the game down entirely but introduce it not through a sophisticated way but through a story because i wanna make people laugh but understand what i’m trying to convey. And to use this genre properly I have to use proper storytelling and language or then this would be no better than a weirdly written academic journal, with rhyme and definitions? I plan to get started by getting a proper sketch of what the story is going to play out like and how the lines are gonna sound, making sure they connect with the story. I’m concerned about word count, if there is a word count im afraid i cant make the requirements because a poem would be too short.

I want to teach my audience how robots affect the workplace and teach them the different robots. I am trying to reach people that hate robots in their workplace and people who have no idea about the robots tax. I hope my audience will react in a shocking way and they will see the benefits of robots in the workplace. I am planning to write an opinion article. the key elements of the genre are opinions. I plan to get started by writing my opinions and using a different source. I am worried about how I am going to express my opinions and the word count.

I want to teach my audience that video games have pros and cons. What we do when we play decides our experience. I believe that gamers need to hear this the most because if they know they can affect them directly. The audience that has the power to change this is the gaming community. The main reason that I shared my position on this was to shed some light on why video games have pros and cons and we decide which one we can lead others to experience. Also I think readers would enjoy reading new things about something they have an interest in. I think that the best genre to use in this case is social media posts. I say social media because a lot of people are on social media these days and youtube so if you put a post out there you’re definitely gonna see it. What makes a social media post is getting a message to your audience. That can also include images, pictures and videos. I plan to get started by looking at social media post to see what one should look like.

I want to teach my audience about the different aspects of college tuition and express reasons on why it should be free and why it should not be free and express concerns about continuing use of college tuition. The intended audience is for people who want to learn more about the impact of college tuition on students. The purpose is to show readers the detrimental effects of paying college tuition as well the positive effects of paying college tuition and how it plays a role in the near future for students. The genre I am planning to write it in is a Blog and the reason for a blog is because the blog can help because the formality of the blog can tap to audience more efficiently, especially since the age of the target audience is usually people who are 17-21. The reason it is 17-21 is because that is mainly the age gap of people enrolling into college. The elements of this genre include having subheadings, a good description which is easy for anyone to read, etc. I intended to get started by looking though different blogs surrounding this topic and building it off that. My only concern is there may not be enough.

I want to teach my audience by reminding them that much plastic hurts our earth, that our environment is slowly dying due to all the plastic and pollution. Many people ignore what plastic is doing to our environment because they are usually not hearing about it or not believing it. The audience I’m trying to reach are people who might be using plastic in their daily lives and have not wondered how much it is affecting the environment. My purpose is for people to start using more eco-friendly products, it is really not that hard if everyone tries to make a change because then there would be less plastic items being sold if more people stop buying plastic items. The genre I’m planning to use is an Article because articles include bold text features and images that can easily capture readers attention. I intend to get started by looking at other articles that are like my topic and finding different ways that I could get it to be more eye capturing and more interesting. I am worried about all the writing that goes into it because the last project was a lot of writing that we had to do and also finding ways to capture audience attention.

The most important thing that I learned about during module 2 is that thousands of animals die each year just to test out the makeup that we as consumers use on a daily basis. Another thing is that organizations such as the Humane society want to pass a law where the bans animal testing for good and this is still a challenge that is being taken place. The audience that I’m trying to reach would be teens and also adults that use makeup. I’m hoping to educate my audience and to inform them how the animals are being treated when tested for makeup. But also to inform them that not all makeup uses animals as testing and there are many brands that are cruelty-free. This means that there are certain brands that don’t test on animals and are very well known as well. They can purchase makeup from them instead of brands that don’t. I’m choosing to write it in a blog because many teens will have their attention grabbed onto it say it was published in teen vogue. They talk a lot about the beauty industry and makeup and fashion but it’s good to inform them of what actually goes on behind the industry as well. I feel like adults can also find this attention-grabbing if they are into the makeup industry because online it will be easier to grab their attention. Something that has to be included can be my opinion on the topic. I feel like statistics that I learned about along the way as well. I plan on getting started by getting the audience hooked on the beginning, making it interesting, and throwing in facts to make them want to read it. My concern would be to run out of ideas and things to say at the end and feel a bit repetitive.

what I want to teach to my audience is that there is no one way to defund the police and that actually defunding the police would actually harm us in the long run although i do not condone what’s going on with our justice system there are better ways to go about this.
my audience is the people affected by police across us and liberals & progressives trying to mess up.
i really hope people will stop saying “defund the police” because its so much deeper then just that.
the genre is an informative wiki
i plan to get started by reading some wikis about my topic
i am worried about the end result as this would be my first project like this

In module 2 I learned that plastic pollution can not only end up littered around the earth but it can end up in the food we eat and it can harm animals. This issue is important to me because if it worsens over time it can become a really big issue possibly high levels of animal contamination etc. The audience I will be trying to reach is the world leaders they are the people who can create laws to ban or cut down on the use of plastics before it too late. My purpose it to get the world leaders come together, use my ideas reformed or not and make a change. Im hoping they will be able to cut down on the amount of plastics that the world can produce which will help the issue at hand. I hope they realize that this is an issue that can effect food quality and animal safety all around the world. The genre I would be using is a speech In order for it to be a speech I must include a professional tone and greet whoever I am speaking to which is the audience I intend to reach. I plan to get started by greeting the audience then introducing my topic to then grab their attention. Im worried that I won’t do the work cause lately I have been lacking motivation to do things but I will pull through.

When people read my article, I want them to understand that these social networks are a big distraction. When someone isn’t feeling right mentally and has a lot of work piled up, they’ll often say “ Ok lemme take a break from Instagram” or whatever social media app. Meaning deleting the app or having a restriction to access the app. That’s because in the past instead of doing what they should’ve been doing, they were distracted, procrastinating, delaying and being lazy in the present moment. I find that younger kids and teenagers are distracted daily from social media. School work piled up, chores not getting done, not going outside, and not taking care of themselves. When these kids read my piece, I want them to reflect. Sit back and think about what they’re doing. If they just put their devices away for 30 minutes or an hour, how much work they can get done. I want to spread my thoughts through a narrative. I can’t speak to the reader directly, so I’ll touch them with my words as they read. Before I get started, I want to gather facts through articles and research studies. So they take their actions more serious instead of going off my opinion.

I want to teach my audience that students that are part of the stressful and unorganized online learning system that students who are economically disadvantaged and live in homes that are full of distractions are struggling way more than financially stable students. The most impotent thing I learned in module two is that we must provide aid to economically disadvantaged students by providing them with technology and distraction free environments to work in. The audience I am trying to reach is administrators and teachers. My purpose is to show the discrepancies in online education because of the lack of funding in urban public schools. The genre I am planning on writing in for my next project is an opinion article. The key elements of my genre is utilising pictures and using being able to express my opinions with words like you and i. I have to be more brief and present tense and use generalizations. I have to outline the main ideas and introduce the topic clearly. I have to make sure I cite my sources and avoid using slang. I intend to start it with a strong introduction that shows my stance and opinion. I am worried about getting everything done in time.

  13. Darleny Morel

The most important thing I learned in Module 2 is that the less money you have and make, contributes to the amount of access you get to healthy foods. I want residents and the people of New York to know that they should speak up and say something to the powerful people in this situation. That we should all come together to receive the help we deserve and the state of New York and the country should hear and help us. I want people to know that we can all be healthy and take care of ourselves without spending the last dollar in our wallet because things are so expensive. My blog will include ways to economize while trying to get through the process of getting help. Because, the whole purpose is to reach the people that can help and do something about this. This includes getting the attention of our state primarily then the country because it is not just a problem in New York. Once this can be achieved everything will work with time. But for this, it must be emphasized how much we actually need it, we can include facts and real people. These facts may include obesity rates and the actual “healthy food” that reaches low income neighborhoods.
