    — Getting accustomed to online learning can be very difficult especially during this current day and age, but being confident and motivated to work through it are the most important steps to see improvement in the work. Understanding how to switch from in-person to online is key to enjoying courses and thinking of it as more as an experience rather than a chore. Online learning overall is about participating and gathering the knowledge as well as being confident enough to ask questions; with those qualities, you’ll certainly be successful while enjoying it too.

    — Tips that I’ve learned from these articles that I might try is how to handle being overwhelmed and not pushing myself past my limits, Interacting with my colleagues to get the best information I can, and lastly, being motivated to go to my classes, doing my work and having a manageable schedule that includes both instructional time and free time.

    — I found these pieces very helpful especially knowing that I’m not the only person out there who needs this information as well as being reassured that despite everything, It’s not impossible to be successful. Knowing that even people who are already settled in life are struggling to become accustomed makes me feel like I’m not fighting the battle alone and it brings a community together to empathize and sympathize with the troubles of online learning.

    PART 3:
    — To be honest. the projects make me worried with my current schedule since I need to start getting back into my work mindset and transition out of my summer break mindset, but overall I’m pretty confident that I’ll get the hang of college and try my hardest to make the best out of it. 🙂 Being an online student was pretty hard last year especially trying to adjust to it and now being thrown into college after struggling so much gives me a bit of anxiety, but if I can just do my work early than it’s supposed to hopefully I’ll be okay.

      Dear Emilyah,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. The start of the semester can be daunting for everyone, but as long as you stay on top of your work, I bet you will have a great semester!

      Warmly,

      RC

    PART2
-Write a 1-2 sentence summary of each of these pieces.
Article 1 Summary: Online classes are not easy but with enough practice and the proper use of your resources you should be able to pull through just fine. You will be required to do things regularly such as completing work on time, checking your course so that you are caught up and participating often so that you and your teacher knows you’re on the right track.

Article 2 Summary: Online discussions must be treated as If the discussion is face to face so that you can get that same feeling as a debate in person. Discussions cannot be filled with just “I agree’s”, there are many ways to keep a discussion going and it starts off with being respectful about peoples ideas/perception of things, then to make the discussion worth the while you will want to ask questions, provide evidence to back up your statements and or even evidence to contradict someone else’s statements.

-What are 3 tips that you learned that you might try this semester? Why? 3 tips that I learned that I will try this semester is that when in debate about something be open to peoples ideas, when in an argument about something I tend to only want to hear what I think which is a very bad habit. Another tip that I found helpful is making sure that I have a private place to study because at times my house can get loud so I need to either have a talk with my family member’s or find a nice quit spot where I can focus on my studies and not be distracted whether is outside in the backyard meanwhile it isn’t cold out yet or even in my room with the door locked with a sign. The last tip that I found very helpful is budgeting my time and setting schedules I need to make sure that I know the time and days that I have class and stick to it, I can’t plan to go to six flags or something when I have classes to attend at the time so its very important I know my priorities.
-Did you find these pieces helpful? If not, why? Explain! Honestly I found these pieces very helpful, I haven’t read a refreshing article like this in a while and now it reminds me of all the things I need to do to stay on top of my work and my discussion skills in which I know we will be doing a lot of in this class.
-Was there anything you would like to learn more about? Explain!
I would love to learn more about MLA formatting as you talked about for a little in class today, whenever we get there I need a refresher on how it’s suppose to be done and so on.

    PART3
-Start with one word that describes how you’re feeling about this course as we get started. No need to explain, but you can if you want to. One word that describes how I feel about this course is excited, I like your energy and words of encouragement towards everyone and I’m looking forward to a fun and productive year.

-Talk about your worries, concerns, reactions to the readings and/or to being an online student… whatever you want to. No censoring… except keep it kind of clean, please ;-). Honestly I’m not worried I’m completely optimistic about the whole thing and just know that in order to succeed I will have to focus and study really hard.

-Add a picture that means something to you, and explain why you chose it — why does it mean something to you?&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.xbox.com%2Fconsoles&tbnid=N6Tzk2I6IGeHaM&vet=12ahUKEwipqOib0MzyAhUsrHIEHXtKDrAQMygAegUIARCvAg..i&docid=M1EmE-tQvHdDZM&w=570&h=570&itg=1&q=xbox&client=safari&ved=2ahUKEwipqOib0MzyAhUsrHIEHXtKDrAQMygAegUIARCvAg

This means something to me because whenever I need to escape my problems I can just hop on my game or even If I just want to have fun and chill I can play as much games as I want.

Both websites explain how to communicate with your classmates and how to you should take full advantage of the resource that is given to you by the teachers. They tell us how college life will be.
3 tips that I am going to try this semester are taking full advantage of NHCC resources. Responding to other classmates’ posts and giving them feedback and being open to new ideas

Yes, I found those really helpful because now I know what I can do to express myself, and tips for online learning success websites showed me the new ways you can help yourself.

My name is Ngawang Tenzin I am 17 years old and my birthday is November 22. One of my biggest concerns is being lazy and missing homework. I think I will like this course because I want to know how the human brain works and I like playing video games if you have discord add me GOJO#4056. My image is a desert because I am a dry person and I rarely talk but I want to change that

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Tenzin,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I am looking forward to getting to know you this semester! IT will be very important to stay on top of your work and I think you are determined to do that which is great!

      Warmly,

    Part 2
    – “Tips for Online Learning Success” grants ten tips on how to better learn in an online environment in school and how to ensure a student gets the best learning experience. “Online Discussions: Tips for Students” shows tips and ideas on how to start and engage in an online discussion smoothly, cohesively, and effectively so the discussion is better understood and engaged properly.
    – One tip I could try this semester is to get a better private area for studying. While this isn’t a big concern for me, the amount of space in my home can create distractions easily from time to time. Another tip I can try is to post shorter posts and not overwrite posts online in a discussions; experience had shown this to be a common thing for me and not a lot would notice my post or read as much. A third tip I could use is adding value. That is probably the bigger issue of the three since I usually agree without explanation or not say anything at all.
    – Overall both pieces are helpful since it explains thoroughly how to help you engage and participate in an online classroom.
    – Other than that, there isn’t much from the articles I want to learn more about; the explanations provided were more than enough.

    Part 3
    – One word to describe my feeling to the upcoming course – prospect.
    – Perhaps my biggest worry is going down the procrastination path while in online class – as I did in senior year of high school. Online class makes it very easy to be distracted on your computer while an online class is in session so I’m working on preventing a repeat of high school senior year.
    – I’m not sure how to upload an image but imagine the Internet. I chose it – and why it means something to me – because it’s literally the “house of information”… but more. It’s one of the highly advanced inventions in recent history and the usefulness of it in general means a lot to not just me but to millions of others around the globe.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Rudrajit,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes! I can’t wait to see how you are going to contribute constructively to class posts!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. I am glad to hear that you are eager and determined! Love your picture idea! Thanks!

      Warmly,

      RC

    PART 2:
The article “Tips for Online Learning Success” discusses the main points on how to achieve a successful online learning experience. This article highlights all the tips such as, participating during class, taking your work seriously, engaging in the work, and being comfortable in your learning space at home. Knowing how to balance out your time and schedule is key for online learning as explained in this article. “Online Discussions: Tips for Students” highlights all the ways students can contribute and create discussions with their professors and peers by asking questions, reading and giving feedbacks, being respectful, and improving your vocabulary and key words when engaging in.
This semester I want to participate more because I feel like I get a little too shy even when im eagar to share out, I also want to improve my vocabulary and writing skills when engaging with my peers and professors and lastly this semester I want to take tutoring when I need it because I become very hesitant to ask for help when I need it.
I found both of these articles very helpful and I will use these tips for this semester and upcoming semesters either its in-person or online.
I would like to learn more about how to find the thesis and unfolding each part after reading any type of reading assignments.
    PART 3:
    Excited
Although I am very excited not only because this is my first year of college but because I really enjoy English classes I am very overwhelmed because I don’t know what to expect really. Being an online student can be challenging when it comes to balancing your personal life and your education, and I believe it can become difficult to stay focused when staring at a computer screen all day. Overall, I am looking forward to all the upcoming topics we will be learning about.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Tehmina,
I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes! I am so glad to hear how much you have participated already! Its great!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. The start of the semester can be daunting for everyone, but as long as you stay on top of your work, I bet you will have a great semester!

  6. Darleny Morel

    Pt 2- Darleny Morel

Three tips I learned that I may try this semester are to keep a conversation/ discussion alive, don’t have a run on post, and to participate. These are important because not only will they get you a good grade, they’ll also improve your writing. I found these pieces helpful because they focus on the most important things. They are helpful to let you know things you should and shouldn’t do. But, there is nothing else I would like to learn about that I can think of right now.

    Pt 3- Darleny Morel

    Anxious.
I feel like I’m a distracted person sometimes and I’m working on it but I just don’t want to fall behind and disappoint myself.

    • Darleny Morel

      Pt 3-Darleny

I couldn’t add a picture, but I would add a picture of the color orange because it’s my favorite color. It’s significant and my favorite color because the color orange symbolize excitement and warmth which reminds me to stay positive.

      • Christopher Lopez

        Part 2
One world that describes how I feel about this course is curious. I have wondered what topics we cover in a college level English class. The only concern I have about online classes is that being home all day makes me lazy. Last year I ain’t go to class but I did the work
because I used to wake up whenever I wanted . I don’t have a picture of my dog and cat on my laptop but they would be the picture because they are both really young and they are my first pets that I had and they make me happy.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Darleny,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. The start of the semester can be daunting for everyone, but I think that you will have a great semester!

    PART 2:

The article “Tips To Online Success” written by the North Hennepin Community College briefly summarizes the do’s and don’ts when it comes to online learning. On top of that giving tips by positively speaking about NHCC and how they provide 24/7 access to the library, free Microsoft Office 365 and a one drive account to store files and papers. The 2nd article “Online Discussion Tips For Students” focuses more on how to communicate on an online live chat or group. They focus more on the part that since you are online and not face to face with classmates, you have to be loud and firm in what you say to show your emotions since you can’t see one’s body language. The article states “Try to make your comments concise and clear.” This shows how they are clear on the fact that you have to be concise in what you say since you aren’t in person. One tip that I read and found useful was NHCC. I never heard about NHCC before and I’m just now finding out that they promote online tutors and have a library where you can access books for free. In the first article they talk about getting used to the online platform that your school will provide. I found this useful because I was used to using Pupil Path from grade 6-12 for submitting assignments. Open Lab is very new to me, so before the first day of school I sat down for an hour reading what different tabs consist of and how to navigate through the website smoothly. In the article “Online Discussion Tips” they write about disagreeing to a classmate. After reading through the section I found the tip useful because not only will it strengthen the conversation but also you should always speak up when you feel something isn’t right related to the topic. When it comes to having a discussion with someone else, I want to learn how to make them feel comfortable talking to me. A lot times students are shy or don’t want to speak what’s on their mind and often just agree with what the other person is saying because they are either “scared” or just not comfortable. I feel this will be important because we have different students in each class and they are all different.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Abdul,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes! I especially like how you found the part about learning how to agree / disagree with your classmates helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to really get to know OpenLab. I think that will make the whole semester easier.

      Warmly,

      RC

  8. Abdul Ikhlaq

Free. The word “free” came to mind when asked how I feel about the course. English class is one of my favorite courses to take because not only are the teachers/professors always chill but the class itself allows you to be free and open minded since there aren’t any restrictions. You write exactly how you feel and what you feel to what you are asked. English classes require a lot of writing since most assignments have to do with answering prompts. And since we aren’t in person I’m just concerned for my handwriting, since a lot of our assignments we type up. I tried uploading a picture up of my family but my computer wouldn’t allow me to. I chose my family because one, they mean everything and two, they are the reason to where I am at and my biggest supporters in what I do.

    • Rebekah Coleman

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I love that Eng. is one of your favorite classes, I hope you really enjoy class this semester! I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. Love that you would post a photo of your family, family is so important.

      Warmly,

      RC

  9. Noman Saleemi

    Part 2:
The article “Tips for Online Learning Success” is mainly about sharing tips which can help the student succeed in their class. They share tips which can help guide the student in making the most out of their online class. The article “Online Discussions: Tips for Students” is mainly about tips to creating a post and replying to posts. They share the mindset you should have when creating and replying to posts as well as how to do your best to make an effective post. 3 tips that I learned I may use this semester is Participating, Log on to the course frequently, and making posts short, clear, and purposeful. I picked these 3 tips because they seem like they will be most useful for the courses I am taking and are the three basic foundations to allow me to have the best experience possible. I found both of these pieces of helpful because they shared important tips which will be useful in the future of catering myself to gain the most out of the class.

    Part 3:

One word which describes how I am feeling about this course as I get started is excited. My worries or concerns about being an online student is balancing all of my work for my online classes.

    1. In short online learning can be difficult when you first get into it, but as you progress you’ll adapt to it and learn other things. Also everything is used towards your benefit so abuse your resources to succeed.

    2. First tip I would use is showing my stance meaning putting emotion into my answer to fully show my feelings towards a topic, I think teachers will love it. Second tip I would use is replying to my classmates because it’s good for them and for me. Lastly I would use enjoy myself because who wouldn’t rather have some joy then being depressed

    3. They were helpful but it was basically things I have already heard before

    Part3
One word I would use is nervous because it’s college and I’m only nervous about the kinds of work we’re gonna get deeper in the year. I don’t have any worries I feel if I stay focused I should be good. U can’t add a picture but I would put future or uzi because those are my favorite artist and I wanna be them

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Unijah,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the 2 pieces. I am glad that even though you have heard this before, you still found some good tips to take away. I look forward to getting to know you this semester.

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. Part 2
“Tips for Online Learning Success” are helpful tips on what the reader should do to make the most out of online classes. Some of the tips that are mentioned include time management, participation, and applying what is being taught to the real world.
“Online Discussion: Tips for Students” is information on how to properly and professionally go about having good discussions online. Adding to the conversation and checking feelings beforehand are some of the tips talked about among others.
I need to plan my time better so that later in my career I do not get overwhelmed and regret not building the habit. Another I will try is to not focus on having the same belief for a long time as sometimes I can be stubborn in what I think is right. The last tip that I can try is to not have my emotions take over when having a discussions as I think that can be a bad thing when trying to sound and be professional.
These tips where helpful in repeating what I may have forgotten about online classes and giving me knowledge about how have good discussions.

    Part 3
Captivating is my word for this course. I am a bit worried about being in college and online and how that will work out and that this is not as simple as in high school. The projects and hopefully not the pages that I have to write at the last minute because I decided to put the off for to long.
My picture would be some one who is distracted as I feel that I get distracted easily and in turn can miss some details or forget something.

Both articles give us tips on how to help us. They both gave us examples of how they can be better students.
One tip that I learned from reading this is that I have to budget my time and set a schedule. Also another thing that I learned is to speak up when I’m having problems, I used to just be lost because I didn’t want to ask for help. Also learned to participate. I usually don’t like to participate but this is a new experience and I need to get accustomed to it. I found this article very useful. I realized that by using some of these tips I can have a better learning experience. I can’t think of anything I would like to learn right now.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Christopher,
Thanks for sharing your summaries of the articles. I enjoyed seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes! I would love a little more specific detail in the summaries, if possible.

tips for online learning basically addresses the basics for success online, to not be afraid because your aren’t in turn typical class environment, just be active within your class discussions and try to take advantage of the multiple resources and advantages for being online like quicker access to notes and articles via websites you can bring up on the side or in blackboard.

tips for online discussions is a helpful resource for students that teachs them proper discussion educate, such as “your answer be not forever” meaning your opinion isnt always set in stone hearing other students arguments and cases can open your eyes to different povs and bring change of heart or advice as simple as engaging in discussions, if you dont participate then you wont get to give your thoughts on matters or show people the arguements that you bring to the table.

3 tips that i found most helpful were taking advantage of my resources because i was never one to use text books or use articles that teachers posted for us because i never saw the point when we already had our notes and slides so i want to break that habit and try a different route. second was participation, im very quiet and i dont really like presenting or participating in anything because i just didnt want to but that is just free class credits being thrown away for no good reason ill try to participate more in these college courses and final tip is enjoy yourself because i need to learn to be comfortable and new people and learn to join in on classes discussions about books or pieces and give people the respect they deserve when presenting their pieces to learn new ideas

i found these pieces to be helpful because they showed me how there is a lot to be learned in the world of online discussion and presentation and being able to carry yourself in a online setting.

    messy

some of my worries with being an online student the most troubling being trying to keep up with everything such as discussions, classwork on blackboard or organization of work. another would be updates and trying to reach out since most things i have to do are now electronic i will have a hard time reaching out to people having to remember emails constantly or setting up meeting times with teachers based on their office hours and having to remember those specific times.

this image means alot to me because i value my close and true friends they are always there for me and i love the conversations we have on topics like games or life problems we can talk to each other about anything and i value that kind of trust

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes! I think in particular, I am really pleased that you are going to participate more and be thoughtful about what that participation looks / feels like.

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. Organization is SO hard, that it why I keep mentioning it! But in the long run, keeping your work organized will really pay off. LOVED your photo! Thanks!

      Warmly,

    Part 2
“Student Tips for online learning” is self explanatory, it provides a handful of tips for helping students in an online learning environment.

“Online Discussions: Tips for student” dose something similar to the first article although it puts focus on virtual discussions.

    1) I tend to try to be self reliant but I’m going to try and speak up much more when encountering problems.
2)I may Try to set a schedule so I can better manage my time.
    3) I want to try and ask more probing questions in order to challenge my fellow classmates as well as myself.

They may not have showed me any ground braking ideas but I still think the articles were helpful and provided some good tips.

I’m not sure if it counts, as it may not be exactly an “English subject” but I would like to learn more about script writing and storytelling in general. With no reasoning other than it being a personal interest of mine.

    Part 3
    Optimistic

Being an online student is the worst school experience I have ever had, its only upside being, we don’t have to leave our homes. Though this is arguable worst since it enforces laziness from the students and on occasion the faculty and teachers too. This virus has single handedly spoiled my high school senior year and collage freshmen experience. At least I can eat in class now.

For a picture I’m gonna choose any picture of me and my friends as they’re one of the few things that made school enjoyable.

PT2. The first article talks about what you will need to become a successful student here at city tech. whether its from the resources you are given or participating etc.
The other article engages in group communication, tips for writing and most importantly making things clear ad purposeful.
3 tips that i will definitely be using are participating because i want to make my voice heard and show that i pay attention. i will use is having my private space since most of my sibling are going back to in person learning that is something i can achieve. finally is taking the course cause the last i need is me getting kicked out and making my parents disappointed.

Going into the school year i feel a lot of nerves cause a lot of people invest in me to do great things and with expectation i plan in. not letting anyone down.
My main concern with online learning will be missing class or even disconnecting from the class.
If i could add a picture it will be me graduating cause that day i made my parents so proud of me and is. moment i will always cherish.

      Dear Jamal,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes. I am very much looking forward to your participation!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. The start of the semester can be daunting for everyone, but as long as you stay on top of your work, I bet you will have a great semester! Loved hearing about your photo! Congrats!

By the way, you posted for the wrong section, total fine, but I can show you how to tell the difference!

Part 2: In the article “Tips for online Success” explained how to put your all in an online school. It gave tips to become a better student and especially since classes are online, our ways of learning are different than how they are in person. A tip that stood out to me was to budget your time and make a schedule. This is important because no one will be reminding you when homework is due or when a project has to be presented. By staying organized and having an agenda is a way to remind yourself and set a timeline for each course.
The article “Online Discussions: Tips for students” explained how it is important to participate in online courses and to show that you are understanding by answering and asking questions throughout the class. It also explained ways to get the class discussion interesting and creative by giving general questions that anyone can answer or backing up what the previous person said. Something that stood out to me was to add value to the discussion. This means that it’s important to elaborate on what someone said. Either is disagreeing or agreeing with them, it’s always good to include the reasoning behind it to give everyone your full point of view.
Part 3: So far I feel interested in this course because I feel like I’m going to get the hang of it and I will learn a lot. I also think that what I learn here will help me in the long run.
I feel like a worry would be cramming an assignment for last-minute or rushing through something but I can work on that by staying as organized as possible.

    Part 2

The first and the second article give tips to help students in the virtual environment. What sets them apart is the second article’s choice to focus on helping students specifically improve their debating skills in a virtual environment.

1)Attempt to make a schedule for better time management
2)Ask for help when i need it, due to typically being a self reliant type of person
3)Asking probing question in order to get better and more engaging answers from my fellow students

I wouldn’t say they were useless as they did provide some helpful tips, though they also did not provide any particularly interesting or thought provoking ideas to try.

I would like to learn more about philosophy and storytelling for no reason in particular other than them being personal interests of mine.

    Part 3

    Optimistic.

I’m just mad that my high school senior year and my college freshman experience got stomped on by a damn virus.

I’d choose a picture of my friends since they’re one the the few reasons going to school was enjoyable.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Khalil,

Great. I was very interested to hear your take-aways from the 3 pieces. I am glad to see which of the tips you found the most interesting and how you are going to apply them in your class.

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. Especially, to end HS like this and start college. I am glad that you are still optimistic (keep it!) and I love that your friends are what keep you motivated!

    • The first article really just shows us normal tips on how you can get used to online classes and explains to us how to be more active when you have a problem and that you should address your problems before its to late.
The second article really just has tips more based on learning in class, discussions , or just writing based tips and on how we can be better at those things.

    • The first tip i liked was “Participate…Participate…Participate” because you understand better when you used what you learned and answering questions after.

The second tip was “Speak up if you are having problems” because I really used to be nervous to talk and when I had questions I emailed the teacher and it took couple hours to get a response but if i just of asked during class it takes no time at all.

The third tip was to enjoy yourself because you learn better when your enjoying class and your more engaged in class.

    • I really didn’t find these tips helpful because they were pretty straight forward to me and pretty obvious.

    • The tip I would like to explain more about was participate more because you learn better that way and you really understand what your learning when you answer questions.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Siraj,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the readings. I am glad that most of these tips were familiar to you and that you feel like you have a good handle on online schooling. I like how you include quotes from the text to support your thinking!

    • NERVOUS

    • Two things I’m concerned about is my grammer but I just re read and fix it now before I didn’t re read and had a lot of grammatical problems and the second thing was when I answer questions I can’t get straight to the point and I explain to much when I can use simpler words.

    • I really don’t know how to post a picture on this.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Siraj,

Sorry about the picture! Feel free to add a description of what you might include if you could include a picture!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think we are all nervous about the start of the year and it is good to talk about it. We can work on grammar, but I really do believe that is what is most important is sharing your ideas and the content!

The first source asks that we provide context when discussing posts we wish to respond to through the use of quotations. It also tells us the importance of adding meaningful substance to the discussion by asking questions and being specific as to why we disagree or agree with statements coming from our teachers and peers. The second source asks us to be mindful of communicating with out teachers and peers and continuing to participate despite the unconventional learning platform that is zoom. It also urges us to check our courses at least four to five times a week to see when assignments and reminders are posted. Three tips that I learned from the readings that I will try this semester are to introduce my subject and opinion in postings to make it more convenient for others, participation regularly, and responding to my peers’ posts to create a coherent dialogue. I feel hopeful that I will start this course on the right foot. I am worried that I might fall behind or not be able to keep up with college pace as I am used to lenient teachers and looser deadlines since I finished High School online. I’m disappointed that college is currently solely online learning because I was looking forward to the in person college experience. If I could include a photo I would upload a photograph of my friends because the bonds I form are crucial and prevalent in shaping who I am as a person and, more broadly, the connections we make keep us sane and empathetic.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Xenia,

I loved reading about your take aways from the articles and how you might use them this semester. Great summaries.

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I, too, wish that this year were in person and that we could be in a class together. I hope that we can still have an excellent experience and learn a lot together.

      Warmly,

    Part 2:

    – Article 1 summary: Being online is not easy, this articles gives us helpful tips on how to improve in our online class so we can do our best to make these experiences the best possible for everyone. Basically being active in classes, respectful of other people, time management and make the most of the resources that are online to help us throughout this process.
    – Article 2 summary: In this article it gives us tips on how to have online discussion and how we can have more people participating and giving opinions on a topic. Keeping in mind that not many people think the same as you, so its important to have an open mind and accept the arguments and ideas of others because their perspective can be of great help.
    – Some of the tips I will be using are: taking advantage of the resources provided to have better knowledge and understanding of the topics cover in classes. To create a schedule so I will have time to do a little bit of everything and not be overwhelmed. The third tip its to be more outspoken and communicate my ideas with others because I am not usually the type of person who speaks a lot so I will try to be more communicative and participate in class discussions.

    Part 3:
    – Excited
    – One of my worry would be not having a balance between classwork, homework and work.
    – I chose a photo of my family on the day of my graduation because that day was when I could see how proud they are of me for fulfilling one of my goals.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Raveena,

Excellent summaries. I really liked reading about your takeaways from the articles and how you hope to incorporate them into your writing this semester.

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. Finding that balance is hard, but sometime we will work on as a class. I love your description of the photo!

    Part #2
    1. “Student Tips for Online Learning Success” gives students tips on how to do well in your classes while being online. It explains how you need to take it seriously and keep everything in order to stay on track with all your assignments.
“Online discussion: Tips For Students” gives good points on how to be involved in discussions and writing a post. It encourages students to give in their own ideas during discussions.
    2. 3 tips that I learned and will be using this semester is to login to my courses frequently so I stay on track on what assignments to complete by the due date. As well as setting schedules such as journals to jot down any tasks I need to get done by certain date. And also engaging in online chats or online discussions so I can share my ideas as well as learn from my classmates.
    3. I did found these pieces very helpful because I am a new student in college so this gave me ideas on how I can stay on track and be involved with my classes.
    4. One thing I would like to learn more about is learning to be more sociable when it comes to class discussion because I have trouble sharing my opinions and i would like to be more involved.
    Part #3
    1. I am feeling very nervous to start this course because it is my first semester in college and it feels more serious.
    2. I prefer in person rather than online classes because I find that learning In person makes me understand so much more than at home through a computer. Also if we talk about the poor connection sometimes which frustrates me.
    3. The picture I would choose is my kitty Sofie, she’s still a baby she was born in March. She means a lot to me and always cheers me up when i’m feeling stressed or upset about something. Its like all your problems drift away when you have a furry animal besides you.

    • Rebekah Coleman

      Dear Saida,

I loved reading your summaries of the articles and seeing what you took away from them. I am glad that you found the tips helpful and will try them out in your classes! Let’s talk about ways of becoming more social / improving discussions!

Thank you for sharing your introduction. I, too, prefer in person learning. I think being an online student is so difficult and challenging for almost everyone. AWW a kitten! So sweet! Can’t wait to see her one day!
