Simplifying the shot really improved it. Yuor overhead shot is really nice and the red grapes in the glass and the green ones on the table could be a metaphor for many things.
You still need to soften the shadows more and fill the shadows. The light in food photography is generally bright and soft.
If you are having trouble getting this with artificial light, try using a window as your light. In professional food photography, window light is a standard. You will still need to reflect light into the shadows but you may have more success with it.
