Prof. Sowder is seeking one freshman interested in joining a paid undergraduate research project on our team studying the Living Breakwaters in Staten Island.
CRSP info: The CUNY Research Scholars Program provides a $5000 stipend ($1000 in Fall, $1000 in Spring and $3000 in Summer) for full-time students enrolled in Associate program or in Bachelor program with less than 50 credits for conducting research with a faculty member. If there is a student that you would like to work with, please provide them with this information and encourage them to apply. This is an opportunity to advance your scholarship while providing valuable experience to a promising student. First year first-time City Tech students are especially encouraged to apply. The program is supported by CUNY Research Office and/or NSF Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program. Last year freshmen researchers applying for this program will be part of LSAMP program as well.

Khiran Samsundar, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech class of 2018, received a promotion to Assistant Project Manager with Jacobs Engineering Group, and is currently working on Bellevue Men’s Shelter Rehabilitation. The project includes a complete roof replacement and electrical work including panel and feeder replacements, a 750KW emergency generator on the roof bulkhead with modification to existing bulkhead, and associated structural upgrades. Khiran previously worked on LaGuardia Airport – Central Terminal B Redevelopment, a design-build project consisting of 8 miles of roadway, 20 bridges, 3 million square feet of paving asphalt and concrete, estimated total labor hours of 11 million, over 40 thousand tons of steel, and 9 miles of baggage handling system. The project cost was approximately $4.83B. At City Tech, Khiran was President of the AGC Club, Co-Chaired the ACE Mentor Dinner events, and received membership in Sigma Lambda Chi, the International Construction Honor Society.

Do you have a passion for old places? Are you interested in a career working to preserve, learn from, and interpret Historic buildings and landscapes? The Clemson University Summer Historic Preservation Institute invites undergraduate students to see first-hand the kinds of work historic preservationists do, all while immersing themselves in Charleston’s unique history, architecture, and culture. This intensive three-day experience includes tours and site visits to some of Charleston’s most iconic historic sites. Attendees will experience both the diversity of the historic places and voices that constitute Charleston’s shared history and the diversity of projects and careers that make up the field of historic preservation.
