Alumni News – Joniel Thomas, Asst. Team Leader at WSP

Joniel Thomas, previously Edwards, City Tech Civil Engineering Technology AAS class of 2018, has worked as an Assistant Consultant, Structural Engineer at WSP USA for three years. Currently, she is working on two projects while serving as the North-East I&D Co-Lead: the Bridge Inventory 2021-2024 Biennial & Interim Inspection Services for Region 8 ($30M project) and the Gowanus Expressway Interchange Region 11 ($15M project). As the NE I&D Co-Lead, she has curated and implemented partnerships with STEM-focused High schools and ASCE to offer students mentorship, internships, and unique opportunities, exposing them to careers within STEM. Her efforts recently aided WSP USA in being the ACEC NY DEIB Award Winner in 2022. Since then, offices in Texas and Philadelphia have implemented her initiatives. Joniel is currently working towards her Business Degree in Leadership and Management with a concentration in International Business and Global Management Studies at NYU.

Alumni News – Angel del Rosario II, PM at Lendlease

Angel del Rosario II, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech class of 2017, has started a new job as Project Manager at Lendlease. He will be taking over the new construction of the Och Spine Center at New York Presbyterian’s Weil Cornell Columbia Campus in Manhattan’s Upper East Side as well as participating in Mount Sinai’s new Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in East Harlem aimed at the advancement of Medical Research. Angel previously worked at Plaza Construction, where he completed multiple renovations at the Brooklyn Navy Yard along with the new construction of United Arab Emirate’s Mission to the United Nations. While at City Tech he was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Alumni News – Adem Muratovic Pursuing MBA

Adem Muratovic, Construction Management Technology AAS class of 2020 and Facilities Management BTech class of 2021, is currently pursuing his MBA at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business with a concentration in Sustainability and Management. Adem currently serves as an Environmental Remediation Consultant for ATKO Construction, an environmental remediation (asbestos/lead/mold) firm, servicing building management firms and landlords across NYC metropolitan area ensuring safe and healthy homes for NYC residents.

Adem was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. During his undergraduate journey at NYC College of Technology, he studied Construction & Facilities Management to expand his knowledge of and skill set in the Construction industry while working full time as a construction project manager, overseeing and managing residential and commercial interior construction renovations.

Alumni News – Danylo Varakuta, Project Exec at New Roc

Danylo Varakuta, PMP, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech class of 2020, has started a new job as Project Executive at New Roc Contracting Corp. He will be taking over the restoration of six Columbia University buildings in Manhattan’s Upper West Side as well leading roofing and waterproofing installation for new highrise construction with Hunter Roberts and CNY.

Danylo previously worked at the engineering firm, The Falcon Group, where he was in charge of the building envelope division. While at City Tech he was a member of the student chapter of the Association of General Contractors of America (AGC).

Alumni News – Khiran Samsundar, Promotion at Jacobs Engineering Group

Khiran Samsundar, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech class of 2018, received a promotion to Assistant Project Manager with Jacobs Engineering Group, and is currently working on Bellevue Men’s Shelter Rehabilitation. The project includes a complete roof replacement and electrical work including panel and feeder replacements, a 750KW emergency generator on the roof bulkhead with modification to existing bulkhead, and associated structural upgrades. Khiran previously worked on LaGuardia Airport – Central Terminal B Redevelopment, a design-build project consisting of 8 miles of roadway, 20 bridges, 3 million square feet of paving asphalt and concrete, estimated total labor hours of 11 million, over 40 thousand tons of steel, and 9 miles of baggage handling system. The project cost was approximately $4.83B. At City Tech, Khiran was President of the AGC Club, Co-Chaired the ACE Mentor Dinner events, and received membership in Sigma Lambda Chi, the International Construction Honor Society.

Alumni News – Duyen Tran, New Job as NYC DOT Traffic Operation Unit Intern

Duyen M. Tran, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech expected class of 2022, received a new job with the NYC Department of Transportation in the Traffic Operation unit as an intern. She joined the team in January 2022 and expects to continue working there after graduation.

Md Rahman, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech expected class of 2022, received a new job with Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Fellowship Program. He joined the BKNY Property Management Department team in January 2022.

Alumni News – Aalaa Mohammed, New Job at Suffolk

Aalaa Mohammed, CMCE BTech expected class of spring 2022, received a new job offer as a Project Engineer at Suffolk Construction. She will be joining the Suffolk Career Start 2022 cohort in their New York City offices. Aalaa is currently conducting research with Prof. Anne Marie Sowder through the group project, “Investigating Project Success Factors in Post-Disaster Rebuilding Efforts in NYC,” part of City Tech’s CRSP program, and was previously awarded Best STEM poster at the 33rd Semi-Annual Dr. Janet Liou-Mark Honors and Undergraduate Research Scholars Poster Presentation (2020) for her solo work “Benefits of Pre-Construction Analysis: CET Senior Capstone Expands Understanding of an Urban Refuge at GallopNYC Sunrise Stables.”

Alumni News – Carlos Piedrahita, New Job at Sciame

Carlos Piedrahita, CMCE class of spring 2020, started a new job as an APM at Sciame Construction. He is working at 335 Madison Avenue on a major renovation project and tenant improvements and is also enrolled in his third semester in the MS in Real Estate Development program at NYU. His career in construction started in 2017 thanks to CMCE Prof. Villatoro who referred him to a GC in Manhattan where he worked as an APM for almost two years. After that, he moved to a bigger company as an APM working on high-end commercial projects ranging from $1M – $20M before joining Sciame in 2021.

Naveed Khan, graduate of the Construction Management associate degree program and current enrollee in the BTech in Construction Engineering Technology program, has been featured in Yahoo News for his work as a New York City realtor. CMCE Alumni News – Kendra Gibbs, New Job at Linesight

Kendra Gibbs, CMCE class of 2020, started a new job as a Cost Management Intern at Linesight. Linesight provides professional consultancy services, management support, and strategic advice to the global construction industry. Kendra has previously worked for the MTA, Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, and as an Undergraduate Researcher at City Tech.

CMCE Alumni News – Danielle Ali, Asst. PM

Danielle Ali, CMCE class of 2018, is currently working at Sciame Construction LLC on Wall Street as an Assistant Project Manager. She is currently working on the construction of The Studio Museum in Harlem, designed by Adjaye Associates. Sciame specializes in building unique structures and cultural institutions. She is also enrolled at Brooklyn College, in the Graduate Business Program earning a masters degree. Danielle has gained a multitude of skills in project management which she utilizes every day.
