Alumni News – Joniel Thomas, Asst. Team Leader at WSP

Joniel Thomas, previously Edwards, City Tech Civil Engineering Technology AAS class of 2018, has worked as an Assistant Consultant, Structural Engineer at WSP USA for three years. Currently, she is working on two projects while serving as the North-East I&D Co-Lead: the Bridge Inventory 2021-2024 Biennial & Interim Inspection Services for Region 8 ($30M project) and the Gowanus Expressway Interchange Region 11 ($15M project). As the NE I&D Co-Lead, she has curated and implemented partnerships with STEM-focused High schools and ASCE to offer students mentorship, internships, and unique opportunities, exposing them to careers within STEM. Her efforts recently aided WSP USA in being the ACEC NY DEIB Award Winner in 2022. Since then, offices in Texas and Philadelphia have implemented her initiatives. Joniel is currently working towards her Business Degree in Leadership and Management with a concentration in International Business and Global Management Studies at NYU.

CMCE Alumni News – Matthew Russelli, Project Manager

Matthew Russelli, CMCE class of 2018, is currently a Project Manager for a GC that has contracts with the City of New York handling public school renovation projects. His most recent project repurposes an old classroom used for storage as a new computer lab.

CMCE Alumni News – Danielle Ali, Asst. PM

Danielle Ali, CMCE class of 2018, is currently working at Sciame Construction LLC on Wall Street as an Assistant Project Manager. She is currently working on the construction of The Studio Museum in Harlem, designed by Adjaye Associates. Sciame specializes in building unique structures and cultural institutions. She is also enrolled at Brooklyn College, in the Graduate Business Program earning a masters degree. Danielle has gained a multitude of skills in project management which she utilizes every day.

CMCE Alumni News – Sandra Torres, Assistant Superintendent

Sandra M. Torres, CMCE class of 2018. As of March 2019, she was employed as an Assistant Superintendent for Sciame Construction, LLC and is currently assigned to The Frick Collection, an art museum and art history research center. The site consists of four interconnected buildings of which two are landmarks. The existing spaces will be renovated to varying extents. The Frick Art & Research Library, Music Room and Reception buildings will be expanded to create new spaces and a brand new underground theater/auditorium will be constructed. The total project is $170M and 201,000SF.

CMCE Alumni News – Manuele Ruvolo, Asst. Super

Manuele S. Ruvolo, CMCE class of 2018. Currently an Assistant Project Superintendent for CNY working on a $62M low incoming housing project, Hallets Point 7 within the NYCHA Astoria Housing Campus. The building is 14 stories and 154,000SF, consisting of 163 affordable residential rentals and related amenities, including surface parking for residents. It is block and plank construction; the exterior façade is brick, EIFS, and punched windows. Challenges include managing logistics around tenant occupied buildings, monitoring noise and limited environmental cleanup. They are working with many stakeholders such as NYCHA, HPD, HDC, and the residents’ association.

Lisa White, CMCE class of 2018, is an Engineer at L+M, where she is currently working on a five site portfolio worth over $60 million dollars. The scope includes exterior façade renovations cladding with EFIS, interior renovations, landscaping and commercial fitouts.

CMCE Alumni News – David Schwartz, PM and Owner’s Rep

David Schwartz, CMCE class of 2018, just finished a 105K SF, 113 Unit residential building in Brooklyn as a Project Manager. After graduating with his Bachelor of Technology in Construction Engineering Technology from City Tech, David received a Masters in Construction Management and Minor in business fron NYU Tandon School of Engineering. He recently transition over to the owners rep side, focusing on building Midrise Multifamily building.
