HW 1: Photography, Selfies, and Cindy Sherman

Photography is a technique to expose a moment that impresses a photographer, or a technique to keep a moment that a photographer wants. Selfie is a photograph that a photographer has taken of herself or himself. It is to show a statue or a mode of herself or himself. Everyone is unique, so as the selfies. The objects in the selfies should represent themselves. If there are some elements in a selfie are not real, it is fine, but they should support the object’s own characteristics. Using a retouching apps to retouch a photo is fine, but not too much.

Every element in a photograph should not undermine the object’s own characteristics. Nowadays, almost everyone like selfies, and post them on photo-sharing apps. Most of them rely on the retouching apps to buff, clean and fictionalize themselves. The forced smiles and exquisite face are not the emerge of themselves. These are fake. Selfies should expose their own characteristics, not a copy one.

From Sherman’s selfies photos, I can imagine that she is a strong, optimistic, and interesting woman. She enjoys her life. These are the good selfies photos that everyone should learn.

Don’t conceal your own characteristics in your selfies.
