To me, photography is like capturing a moment to remember. Photography is creativity. There are many unique ways people take photographs. Some people take photographs to portray the meaning of something. Some people take photographs to create a different point of view of a person, place or thing. I think that selfies are a way of self expression. Today in the social media industry, there are people who are instantly praised for their selfies when they have healthy looking skin or the “perfect” features. Sometimes people want to express themselves as “perfect” with specific facial features that are either natural or cosmetically done. In todays social media industry, I noticed that a lot of people are striving for those big lips and small pointy doll like noses for the “perfect” doll like face. The cheaper version of this is photoshop. It is influencing a lot of people to get cosmetic surgery, while their are those who are just trying to achieve clear skin. This teaches some people to also embrace their natural self. I think that Cindy Sherman has broken the social norms by not caring about looking “sexy” because she’s a woman. I like that she came out of her comfort zone and decided to post pictures like this of her own self instead of posting ordinary selfies.
