"Game On, Python!"

Responsibility-Diana Saprykina

I don’t think that the gaming community or the computer industry has a responsibility to society. When you think about it, people like to play video games to escape, and have fun when they are bored. It’s not something to be taken seriously and honestly I can’t think of what responsibilities they should have. many people say that video games can be addicting to children and stop them from having real-life experiences. All I have to say is as a kid video games created so many good moments and memories for me. It never stopped me from having real-life experiences or going outside to play. Kids nowadays play with their friends and talk in a chat, when they get to school they talk about video games and can’t wait to get home to play again. It creates a way for children to forget about the pressure of society. It might not be healthy to play for hours on end, but no child can be left out because of physical incapabilities. The world is changing and technology and the internet are leading the way. As much as someone might like the old way of life, the shift to technology in our everyday lives is inevitable. If you don’t get used to it now, you might get lost within the next 10 years of technological advancement. With that being said, the gaming community has zero responsibility to society and that is the way it should be. Video games are already a blessing to everyone who enjoys them, including me. I don’t see a world where gamers have duties to fulfill to society.

I like your idea but as gamers we have a role is society because there are still many people who think that playing video games is a waste of time and as gamers we can try to change some adults point of view , adults who are parents of kids who like video games but because they didn’t grow up with video games they think is bad for their children to play, without knowing how video games make you escape from reality and forget about the problems they have in school or with their friends because even if they are kids everyone give importance to different things so they also have their own problems.

This is an excellent debate: parental responsibility vs industry responsibility. I won’t take sides here, but I do know of kids who sneak off to other kids’ houses to play games like Grand Theft Auto… and they’re six years old. Where does the responsibility lie there? Are creatives truly not responsible for the art (or in this case game) they create? As I said, interesting debate. What do you think?
