“That was the language that helped shape the way I saw things, expressed things, made sense of the world.
But they seem just as bad, as if everything is limited, including people’s perceptions of the limited English speaker. When I was fifteen, she used to have me call people on the phone to pretend I was her. In this guise, I was forced to ask for information or even to complain and yell at people who had been rude to her. Fortunately, I happen to be rebellious in nature and enjoy the challenges |
The language that I was able to speak didn’t make sense to some of my teachers because it was “broken”. They even asked if I happen to be born in another country which limited me from talking because I didn’t want to make a fool of myself. I can agree with this. When going to appointments with my mom, I see other adults that have limited English speaking and struggle to communicate which can get stressful at times. I can connect to this since the age of 8. I had to talk to my parents and tried filling out part of the forms they didn’t understand. This is a connection to me personally I love to face challenges and be able to have the chance to overcome it. It is as people say you aren’t living if you aren’t risking. |
