- Read Ching BCI on Egress A.10-A.11.
- Submit scanned + formatted Reading Notes+ Sketches
- Save your scans to ONE PDF file; see formatting requirements here
- Remember to use Gernert for the professor name, + use the correct date
- In addition to your notes/sketches, be ready to discuss:
- How many means of egress do I have in my home?
- Where are they and how do I get to them?
- Sketch a plan of your home showing how you would exit the building in case of an emergency.
- If you live in an apartment building be sure to show the path to the outside of the building, not just your apt.
- Keep in mind that every building should have at least 2 means of egress.

- Draw structural grid based on dimensions provided in class by Professor Gernert
- Be sure to use drawing conventions and + scale we reviewed in class
- Draw only the structural grid — column grid lines
- Use line type for centerlines
- Plan with dimensions can be found in the Downloads section below
- Bring all drawings to class and be ready to review with Professor Tuesday February 22, 8:30 am.
- Do not fold your drawings; roll them.

- All students are to write notes/sketches in your sketchbook
- In addition to your notes + sketches, prepare the following and be ready to discuss next class:
- Find a stair near you (home, park, etc…), measure it, draw it in plan and section, and confirm whether or not it complies with the building code based on what you’ve learned in the reading.
- What are the key things to look for when trying to figure out if a stair is code compliant?
- Module I: Case Study – Complete Floor Plan
- Be sure your structural grid is accurate
- Use the Download drawing above for all dimensions
- dimensions are on the plan, and in the notes below the plan
- if you don’t have a compass or a circle template, you can do the rotunda + exterior columns in class
