Blog#1 “The Yellow Wallpaper”

At first while reading “The Yellow Wallpaper”  I found interesting about the narrator and her husband. Which made me think how can a husband behave with his wife like that. Even through she has mental issue, he supposed to not treat her like a child and hurts her feelings. As a husband he should of support her and listen to her. The most interesting part that I found about the wallpaper and how she feel about it was interesting to know. The narrator introduced her life through the wallpaper. She thinks there is so many great well women who is trapped behind the pattern, which she meant herself. She is trapped in her room by her husband. Who doesn’t listen to her and doesn’t take her anything  serious.  She likes to write but her husband doesn’t let her doing it. I think the husband doesn’t want her to get well. He just want her to stay home. He doesn’t let her to out and breathe. I felt like he wants to control her. The narrator wants to escape from her room and go out but her husband is stopping her.

Blog#4 “The Sandkings”

“The Sandkings” by George R. R. Martin is a creepiest story I have ever read. I never had read this kind of horror story. Main character of the story Kress who brought some small insects like creatures for entertainment. He didn’t take those insects seriously.  He made them fight with each other by giving them a little amount food and he wanted to be god of those innocent insects. Kress brought those pets to satisfy his cruel pursuit of amusement.  He was really mean to those insects.  He didn’t care about them if they are even dying from starving. He just wanted to enjoy their war with each other for food. Which I felt really bad about and made me feel mad at him. Just because they are small insects  doesn’t mean they can’t feel the pain. Whatever he did to those creatures was really cruel and wrong.  After all they have life and they feel pain like him. How he would of feel if he was starving like those sandkings.? He didn’t even think of what he was doing wrong to those sandkings. He should of treat them well because they are his pets. Because of his cruelty at  the  end he is destroyed by his own creatures. After all the story was really interesting and I   enjoyed it.

Blog#5 “A Sound of Thunder”

“A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury was a great story.  It made me think in different way about time travel.  I think if would of have a time travel machine, I would like to travel in my country  and want back those days I spend when I was a kid. That life was beautiful and with everyone love. The story “A Sound of Thunder”  is about a guy  name Eckels, who  agreed to “Time Safaris” to travel in the past and kill a dinosaur. At first while reading the story I thought he is a brave and strong man. But when he faced the dinosaur he got scared. The way he said strongly he is going to kill the dinosaur,  he didn’t able to even through he had confidence in himself and had experience of killing animals. He didn’t know that dinosaur will be so big.  We think that we could do anything but it doesn’t actually happen that way. Things seem to be different in real than what we had think we can do. The time safaris rule was for him  to follow the instructions.  Eckels didn’t follow the instructions. He accidentally killed a butterfly by getting scared of dinosaur. For that small mistake Eckels brought change in the future. Ray Bradbury I guess wanted make us understand that small things can create a big problem. Where big things doesn’t matter like dinosaur. Because of his one small mistake, he changed the future and also loose his life. I would like to say that we should always follow the instruction before doing something and not let bad things happen.

Blog#3 “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien

“The things they carried” by Tim O’Brien  is a story about war experience of soldiers. By reading this story I got to know how sad is soldier life. It’s like they are sacrificing their life, family , and their love ones. They go through many situations during the war and that effect on them physically and mentally. Tim O’Brien  mentioned every single things each soldier carried with them. He explained every physical and emotional burdens each soldier carried.  He used the  tangible and intangible things to make us understand what actually each soldier carried. He let us know how every soldier is unique by listing every single things each soldier carried. Tim O’Brien lists lot of tangible things soldiers carried, such as all the weapons, equipment and including personal stuff each soldier carried. Which I felt little boring  about while reading this story and then it got interesting. However,  mainly he focused on the intangible things like emotions they carried with them. They carried love, each others guilty consciences. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross is the one who he said more about.  Lt. Jimmy cross always thought about this crush Martha. And he blame himself for his fellow’s death.  He thinks  he thought about Martha too much and that’s caused his fellow to die. Jimmy cross carried this guilt through end of the war. Which also changed him and brought his focus to the war. Which is really important for soldiers in the war.  War is about fight so they need much focus  to keep their surrounding and their self safe.

Sound of Thunder – Blog 5

Ray Bradbury’s “Sound of Thunder” was about a stubborn man, Eckels, who travels into the past to kill a dinosaur but accidentally kills a butterfly which changes the course of his future. What struck me the most was how the seemingly delicate’s butterflies death was juxtapositioned next to the death of the giant dinosaur (who’s death was inevitable anyway). The story makes you question was is and is not important; what small change in my decisions could lead to a life altering reality later?  Bradbury really makes you feel like everything is/can change the future while also making you feel like the big tyrannosaur of a problem could just be nothing. The point, I guess, is that you never know.

Blog #5 A Sound of Thunder

Overall a great story, opens my mind when I read it. Just to think of time traveling, gives me joy. If I was in this scenario I would’ve time travel back to 80’s where it full of enjoyment. Reading this story made me think not only think about time traveling is cool but not everything cool is really good. We have people Eckels who wants to do their own thing and forget about any consequences living their life to the fullest FORGET THE RULES !.  Keep in mind everything happens for a reason whether the situation is big like time traveling or small like stepping on a bug. If it’s meant to be then it’s meant to be, if it’s not going the way you want. My best advice is to man up and own up to it because time moves on and days go by to just stay stuck, wonder why and cry.

Blog #5: A Sound of Thunder

In the story A sound of thunder, the author takes us back in time before civilization. Before humans existed, there were dinosaurs. In the future time, 2055 we are introduced to a idea of a time machine which was turned into a traveling machine for entertainment purpose. People would pay thousands of dollars just to go back in time and hunt dinosaur. although it seems fun, there were strict rules to follow during the trip back in time, because anything you do might change the future drastically. It was the character Eckel first time in this trip, first he was excited that he was going to kill dinosaurs but later on he became scared and nervous. Ultimately what they greatly feared, came true, by killing a butterfly in the past they changed the future when returned back to their time. The language system of that period was different, also the people in power of the government as well. I believe the author is trying to make the reader acknowledge the future of our planet. Often we see people going to hunt animals for fun, while they are having fun it’s causing lots of different species to go extinct. Just like the butterfly the character killed which changed the future, us killing endangered animals will also put our future in danger.

Blog #5 “A Sound of Thunder”

In Bradbury’s story, “A Sound of Thunder”, time travel exists and it is used in terms of entertainment. People can pay a large sum of money to travel to any time period they like as long as they follow the rules. Though they warn that any small wrong move can cause a ripple effect and change the future as they know it, the government in this world is still allowing anyone to time travel. Eckels, the main character is excited to travel back in time to kill a dinosaur and though he was warned, he didn’t really understand the dangers in his trip. Prior to his departure, we learn that everyone is happy with the President that had been recently elected. Travis, Eckels guide, warns the hunters that they must follow the rules given and that changing anything, no matter how small, can change the world in which they live. At that point they don’t know what kind of changes the wrong move would entail. During their trip the other hunters and Travis become upset with Eckels for not following the rules. Upon their return they see the changes that occurred due to breaking the rules. Their President was now the one they were originally opposed to and the language itself is different. This story is very similar to other stories about time travel and it really made me think about how we don’t realize how small actions can affect the bigger picture. In reality, we would have no way of knowing what one action or another can mean for our future. Hopefully, if we ever get to the point of time travel in the real world, we would first discover how changes to the past would affect the future before allowing just anybody to travel and possibly completely change our world.

Blog #4

Sandkings is a story about fictional creatures called Sandkings and their keeper, Kress. Kress likes to keep the pets he finds the most interesting and hates anything considered “cute”. He is businessman who is often away from home and lost a few pets due to his absence.  Kress went on to find replacement pets and ran into this shop called Wo and Shade, Importers. This is where Wo introduces him to the Sandkings. Kress is at first dubious about the lifeforms. They don’t seem interesting enough for him and he wants something more appealing. Once Wo gains his interest by describing how they go at war, and how they worship, he decided to take them home. He fast grew tired of the inactivity as he was ready to see them at war. As Wo described, they would also come to worship him. However, Kress didn’t have the patience to treat them properly. He grew impatient and manipulated the creatures to fight one another by withholding their food. Because the Sandkings are intelligent creatures, they realized what Kress was doing and they had to continue fighting if they wanted to eat. Kress soon noticed they had begun to change his face in ugly ways on their built castles and this upset him. However, Kress was more preoccupied with impressing his friends and assuring that they’d be continuously entertaining him that he turned them against him. In Kress’ mind, these creatures were still going to worship him as he was their ‘God’ and he was the one feeding them. He invited friends over to bet on their wars. Ultimately, Cath, another character, opposed his cruel actions and she failed. Kress killed Cath though he didn’t actually mean to. He was a cruel person whose actions led the horrific deaths of other characters as well as his own death. We see how Kress spiraled into his own death by fault of his own. In a sense, Kress got what he deserved for his cruelty.

“A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, opens when a man named Eckels who enters the offices of Time Safari, Inc., a company that offers hunters a chance to go back in time to shoot dinosaurs which to them haven’t walked the earth since 60,002,055 years ago. Hunters must strictly obey their guides, shooting only what and when they are instructed to shoot. Any disobedience could cost them their lives plus a fine from the company and the government if they survive. They not to touch anything, and they are not to shoot at any animals unless Travis approves. When Eckels asks why Travis explains that the company does not want to take any chances by changing anything at all about the future. Destroying even a flower, an insect, a mouse, or any other living thing could cause potentially massive unforeseen consequences a ripple-like effect in the future. For example, if killing one living thing in the jungle would mean wiping out the potential offspring of that living thing, and thus the offspring’s offspring, and so on and on and on for countless generations. The results of you interacting with anything are literally unpredictable. I don’t how to feel about the idea of turning a time machine into tourism. It’s bizarre because if you ask anyone else they would use it for personal reasons only.
