From last class, I learned how different roles play in a design company. There are intern designers which are the lowest level in the company. The highest is the producer. Producer is the role to talk with clients and make every things works well in a whole. Art directors will set the senior designers tone of a project, using visuals to bring concepts to life. The senior designers have the highest risk to lose their job if their works don’t satisfy the clients or meet the expectation. Copywriters will work along with the creative director and the project manager.
In last class, we watched a speech by Chip Kidd. He is best known for his book cover designs. From that speech, I learned that inspiration is everywhere in our life. We just need to pay more attentions to our surroundings and use our imagination. He also talked about mystery and clarity. An ad is good when it is in clear mystery or useful clarity. But don’t mix them together, it will turn out a meaningless ad. For example, the packaging of the Diet Coke, it only has “DK” in the can. That is a clear misery. But when they put it on the ad that said ”you’re on coke.” That makes every things wrong.
