What Is Writing? An Introduction to College Writing in the 21st Century

My name is Sezan Saimon. I am living in new york since 2011 with a goal of better life and better education. This is why i applied to CUNY and i got a chance to study in Citytech. Even though it does not have the major i am interested in, i am gonna do my associate from here and then transfer to City College.which is best for engineering. I love my college its beautiful and has an quite environment to study. My goal is to be an Electrical Engineering. So i am planing to transfer to City College.

My name is Cassandra West and I’m majoring in Human Services. I know I’m late with the post , but I just found out how to use this Open Lab. I’m the youngest out of nine children and the third to enroll into college. I’m a New York City licensed Barber and over the break I was cutting hair in my local Barbershop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I love being a Barber, it’s a big part of who I am and what I love to do on my free time now. I decided to come to college because I always feel you need a back up plan and I was always interested in the social work/guidance field.

My name is Omar Vivar my major is Computer Engineering its my second semester. I’m not a fan of writing but if I could I’d write music. I think that you can always find a song to fit any mood. Also I love laughing, and so far the class puts me in a good mood. Alright…

Miscommunication occurs when the writer/speaker is unclear.  When the listener is not listening.  When either the speaker or listener or both are closed-minded and unwilling to alter their perspectives.  When the listener has no idea what the speaker is talking about.  When the listener disagrees with the speaker.

Professors only assign papers that they think are interesting (hopefully) and dislike reading boring papers.  However, the fact of the matter is that many students end up writing boring papers for college classes.  Why?

Why do students write boring papers?

Because the topic is boring.

Because they are not motivated.

Because they have more important things to do.

Because they don’t know enough to care about the topic.

Because they don’t have enough to say to fill eight pages.

Because they will not think outside the box in relation to the topic.

My name is Tarik, and my major is environmental control technology this is my first semester of college ever. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I enjoy watching sports and playing them as well. I love music I actually just started to make beats a while ago. My friends got a little home studio so I rap when I feel like.

I only got one question. Is there anytime we would be reading the book in class because I already got it on my phone?

Hi, my name is Kavier Mercy. My major is EMT and I am currently in my second semester  here at Citytech. I was born in Jamaica and came to America when i was eleven years old, it was around that time that started to be fascinated by computers.

Hello my name is Tyril Jarvis, my major is civil engineering . This is my first semester , also my first in a college setting.  I am a big music and sports fan .I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York .I had fun growing up even though I was the only child I have a bunch of cousins that I could easily call my brothers and sisters I could say I’m a good listener for the most part unless your just completely boring me but even then I’ll  still listen because I fill if you decided to talk it might just be that important for me to listen ………I for one ,love where I came from and I most certainly love the direction I’m going in and I also look forward to having a successful year and wish the same for everyone else.

Hey, I’m Rachael Mangal and my major is Fashion Marketing and Merchandising. I’ve been interested in Fashion ever since i could remember. I love controversy & music. When i was a little girl i was interested in Fashion Designing but i think i would work better behind the scenes in the fashion world handling the business side. I am a very open minded person and look forward to this semester! By the way, i hate talking about myself.
